Also it's all a matter of opinion anyways, i thought Xavi was the best through 08-10 i now think Messi is, only for the last couple years though. You'll never come to a conclusion, people will always favour who they like & people appreciate different things.

I'm not old enough to have watched Pele or Maradona live and everyone knows that youtube videos can make anyone look good or bad.
Anyway even if you are old enough its still too early to tell as Messi is only 25.

Best player today? Absolutely.

He's got all the play of Maradona (The amazing dribbling skills, those through passes and a left foot to dream of) mixed with Pele's goals, added to Stoichkov's disdain for Real Madrid, plus all the wow factor of Ronaldinho, all wrapped up in 5'7 package, he's amazing, for me, he is the Greatest of All Time.

I watch film of the old greats all the time, and the thing they have in common is just their domination of the opposition, whether it's from their dribbling ability, their tactical awareness, or strength speed and desire. Messi does it just like Maradona, Pele, Zidane, Garrincha, Ronaldinho etc all did it.

I also think he will be a much better leader for Argentina in the World Cup, add to that he's even better than the last one and Argentina as a squad are getting their act together. I would like to see him win a World Cup but if he doesn't I'll still consider him tied up there with Maradona and Pele.

When on song, there is no other player that has/can come near his level.

As mentioned earlier, people will always have different opinions. So, even if he goes on to win every WC he plays in till the end of his career, there will still be people saying Ronaldo was better.

But, and I'm sure about this, when he hangs up his boots, everybody from the psycopath that is Pepe to the 15 year old Ronaldo fan boy will agree that they were lucky to witness Leo Messi play in his prime.

Their is quite a few players that would come near to him, its his consistency that makes him special, the pure talent is anything you've never seen before.

Pele
Di stefano

Cryuff
Mardona
Ronaldo
Van hasten
Dinho

To name a few are all as good him at their best
