Please, no tactical analysis is needed here. Our wingers have to track back in these games. It's the reason the opponent has numerical advantage going forward. It's not Rakitic's or Iniesta's job to defend the opponent's fullbacks incursions.

True. But Lucho is afraid to sub one the MSN when they really need to be subbed out...

We lost shape when he came off. Turan is so fucking clueless he doesn't even know where to stand.

His (Turan's) tactical awareness is woeful. That can't be taught, intelligence on the pitch is something that is always with a player, he whether has it or he doesn't. I'm very disappointed in him...

I think the shape had already gone. Look at Marcelo in build up to equaliser.

Raki was tired and struggling to get back numerous times.

Not that it was on him as such as he had little support in defending that area.

Looked to me like Real were targeting Rakis area with Marcelo and Lucho knew it but then had a complete fuck up of how to remedy it. Arda is not that type of player. Just as Busi or Iniesta or Messi are not.

Enrique's insistence with arda being his sub is worrying, though. Roberto is a better fit.

Totally agree. Roberto should have been on.

I just think Raki was done by time he came off and it was def the correct decision to sub with Raki struggling by then.

Pisses me off Raki was left with so much to do in defending Marcelo as no RW as Messi not there to defend. CMs like Raki are not quick enough to track a LB like Marcelo in full flight.

Him and Roberto together could easily stop Marcelo. When we play Messi in the middle, the balance is lost and everything becomes fucked up.

How would you play Roberto and Raki together?

Roberto can track Marcelo on the run. Raki cant he needs to break up play before gets to that point. Which he did well for most part bar last 10/15 mins before coming off.

The whole game plan seems to go to fuck as Messi wont or cant defend.

I agree with JamDav. The solution is to keep Messi at RW and convince him to give a bit more in defence. At least cover the zone better. He can't just stay 60-70m away from our RB. Marcelo is having fun between those 60m.

Both their goals came from their fullbacks going way up unbothered.

Don't even want Messi to cover all of Marcelos runs but even just to be in his area and disrupt him a bit or show him inside.

To often tonight and some previous games Marcelo has so much room he gets up a head of steam to charge 60-70yds and just knock ball past slower midfielders like Raki and Arda.

It allows him to dominate the left hand side which in turn allows Ronaldo to get inside where he wants to be and sniff out chances.

All this was prevented when Roberto not only matched Marcelos work rate but dragged him about with his off the ball movement in the 4-0 win game.

As bad as this sounds I think Roberto gave Marcelo a harder game then than Messi has in years. All with nothing to do with what he did on the ball.

One explanation would be that the players were just a bit tired from the intense action with their NT (especially the MSN, since South American WC Qualifiers are no joke). Also the 10 point difference played a part, and the Atletico game might be seen as more important by the squad.

Of course not. Obviously Marcelo should worry about Messi more than the other way around.

During the First classico Lucho had his tactics spot on when Dealing with Marcelo.

He had Roberto start up front but with a different role compared to Messi, Roberto's role was to effectively Disrupt Marcelo and help Rakitic defend on the right hand side. Marcelo had problems with Roberto cutting in during the first half which effectively lead to Suarez scoring the first goal.

In the Second Half Roberto was playing as a Second makeshift RB/RCM along with Rakitic which further helped Limit Marcelo. It was the first time in a while we actually did something to Limit Marcelo's dangerous runs, Marcelo might not be good defensively but his attack going forward is something else.
