Ivan Rakitić

He had a bad game, but his midfield partners and Paco also let him down. Usually we play Messi on RW or dropping down centrally, but when Paco played RW (sometimes as #9) he had a total of 7 touches in the 60 minutes he played. Also, Borussia pressed very well. No excuses, Raki was mediocre at best - but he didn't get much help tbh.

With the way Celta had difficulty defending the headers, why didn't Rakitic play?

Oh, I know why : Luis Enrique strategizing hahaha

I can understand why he is benched, but did Lucho have to rest Iniesta too? And on top of that he chose freaking Rafinha over Denis. That's just stupid beyond belief

So apparently he is injured. Something on his Achilles tendon. Hope it's not serious.

Rakitic's interview with Sport

How is the team, beyond the most recent result (Celta Vigo defeat)?

I think very well, we are on a good path. We work a lot on the idea and what we are doing is correct. Of course, we have to improve a lot of things, but the team is good. And the season has just started.

And how are you?

I think I can be content with how I've started, but it's like I said, we've only just begun. And there's a long way to go. I feel good and I want to continue like this.

You always play in the important games. Do you feel a key starter?

To feel one way or another isn't that important, what's important is that we all want to be on the pitch. What I want is the confidence of the coach and of my team-mates and to feel that they can count on me whatever happens.

You need no presentation...

I think that the people know me well, you and all the people around. They know that I always want to be at my best, they demand a lot from me and I want to show the coach and be in all the games.

This season you have two goals in very few games...

I don't know what to say - sincerely, I want to continue like this. Of course it's a very big happiness if I can score and help the team, but above all I want to feel, to have this feeling, that I am doing well. We keep growing and I want to be part of this. And each year I want to feel it more. This is my third year and I want to be at my best.

The squad is larger still and everyone wants to play. Do you feel pressure?

More pressure, no. We are at Barcelona. I think you don't have to say too much. The pressure comes from yourself. What you want is to have the confidence to be able to say 'look, I'm doing well and I want to play'. This is why I am working each day. I think we've started well, I've had two unbeatable years and I want to continue like this. And that this third year is even better."

You won the treble in the first season and in the second it just got away. What happened?

Football is sometimes inexplicable, things can happen that don't have a perfect explanation. "Look, we failed at this." No, because football is about a lot of small details that can go for or against you. It's a pity to say it, but in 15 days we had so many details against us that maybe you don't deserve it.

What's important is to learn frm this and tahnks to the good months before, not much happened. But yes, we wanted to go further in the Champions League and we could not do it. But to finish the season with the double is more positive than negative.

It's impossible to win the Champions League or the treble every year...

Well, if anyone can do it, it's Barcelona. We live for this and the club's path has shown us that it can be done, with all the respect for other teams. We know that we are doing good work, with unbeatable desire.

Competition could help you avoid the dip?

I hope so. The club always works for this, to improve in every aspect. We will try to be stronger still. We don't like to talk too much about ourselves, we try to work, show on the pitch the hope that we have in every game, enjoy it, do well and see happy Cules.

How can you grow stronger?

Well working on the little details. It seems silly when someone scores a goal against you and you see the ball go in, but we have to watch the 30 seconds and everything that happens before, to see why it happened and how you can avoid it. You have to work on details, to make us stronger as a group. That's the most important thing.

Is there a difference playing with Messi and without him?

*Smiles* It's very different. One has nothing to do with the other. We know the importance he has for us, but there's a squad and we will try to keep moving forward. On one part for him, to say 'look, you're not there but we will do everything we can to keep moving forward'. It's very different playing without Messi.

Who are your strongest rivals?

We know the English teams have a lot of enthusiasm, as well as Bayern, like always. And Sevilla. We have to respect everyone the same because we all want to get to the final game and show our strengths.

What do you like more, Liga or UCL?

I like being on the pitch, even in friendlies.

What do you like most about football?

Everything. The smell of the grass, team-mates, when you win..
