This forum thrives on negativity, unlike reddit. Rakitic is just the modern version of Gomes for people here, as the latter does not really get that much gametime and you need a scapegoat every game.
It is quite obvious if you just look at how the posts gather. Rakitic has poor game - 30 people come here and whine cry, call him names. Rakitic has a good game - a few posts saying he was okey, rest are quiet or still going after their agenda.
Its sad part of human nature really, couple of bullies teasing on someone and rest supporting and cheering just to "on the side" with the cool guys, belonging to a group thingy.
Critique against Rakitic has been so exaggerated, he hasnt had his best season, but by far he has not been as bad as people make him sound like.
I never said he is that terrible. He is still better than Gomes for sure. But for these past few seasons, especially now, he has been painfully mediocre. He is just not cut for a top club like Barca and we shouldn't be too generous with letting him stay here and play when in reality he hardly offers anything. He's become much slower, slow in reaction, mediocre passing, often lacks strength as well. And regarding minutes, he played over 1000 mins in La Liga and 400 in UCL. I dont think u can even consider that little.
I dont want to be inhumane and call him a trash but this is competitive professional football. When u are way past it, you gotta step down and give others a chance. Paulinho somewhat proved himself to be much better, and I have to give credit for that. It's nothing about being negative, it's about being honest, among all the other players Rakitic is ranked one of the lowest. Even old players like Busquets and Iniesta are still proving themselves, so there's simply no room for excuses. Like it or not, I appreciate what he's done for the previous seasons but he's gotta leave for the sake of other players who consistently put up good performance and wants to win more trophies for their careers. It's just not very fair for them.
Human nature is that people tend to exaggerate for the good or bad. Nothing wrong with that. And this forum doesnt thrive on negativity. Rakitic tend to be criticised more harshly bcos of the numerous appearances he made but failed to make an impact. That's just the truth that cant be sugarcoated. That goes the same for Suarez.
If this isn't Barcelona, I wouldn't criticise him.
