The three keys of the case:

- Barça already knows PSG's official interest in the Croatian midfielde

- The player does not want to leave Camp Nou, but he knows that his salary will not be improved at Barcelona

- PSG have him as a number 1 target on their list and are willing to make a great offer

If there is ant truth to this news it's time to get the most of PSG. Rakitic for 50 mil plus Rabiot and Meunier.

Imagine if he does stay and reject double money and a 5 year contract and stays but gets injured or simply loses form and place in team or Arthur and/or Vidal are revelations in midfield !!

All the above are entirely possible .

If was him I'd play the % game and take the money & long contract and run !

He's getting progressively slower ( he's actually THE slowest in the whole squad incidentally) so he's becoming less effective as time moves on so there's no way he gets a contract extension.

I'm struggling to see why any rational thinking person would stay !

Agreed but personally I'd rather keep Raki into his mid 30s than Alba. Not as unquestionable starter (unless he'd prove to deserve that every season) but as a squad player he could still be useful. When Alba will lose his speed over the next 2-3 years he won't have anything special to his game anymore, Raki will still have football IQ and workrate even if he'll decline physically further.

That said, Alba will most likely be here longer than Raki but hopefully we'll find someone to get Alba more competition and eventually replace him in the first XI when his decline will happen.

Can you even imagine how slow Rakky will be in 4 to 5 years !!!

Hard to find better CM then rakitic at the moment, who will be okay with rotations, which is most important now with arthur in the squad and vidal.

Rabiot + Money would be a dream. Rabiot is already close to Rakitic and certainly has a higher ceiling. Won't happen though.

According to Fernando Polo (MD) Rakitic wants to stay but he also thinks he deserves a wage increase but the Club on the other hand right now isn't interested in giving him a new contract.

Going by the article it seems he's is trying to use PSG's offer which he's being offered a lot more money and hopes he gets bigger wages.

this would be the right moment to sell, for all parties involved. we will never get a higher amount than what we can get now. also, he will get his last big paycheck in top level football.

problem is that we don't have a plan to replace him right now and we might take the scatter gun approach to the market. who could replace him?
