I hope the 90 million bid is true- I'd accept it in a heart beat
who's going to replace Rakitic?

Then 6 months later: Fuck Valverde, Arthur should start, why we don't give younger players chance.
If the deal is good for us, then I find no problem accepting it tbh.
I want Raki to stay, but he is 30 and he is same age as Suarez,Messi,Alba,Pique & Busquets. Those are 6 starters that by summer 2020 we shouldn't have more than 2 of them starting. If the club is comfortable taking their chance on season without him and we can get good deal for him, I won't mind it.

Not really fair to complain about Rakitic being 30, he has superior workrate to anyone in this team and his style is one of those where he can stay world-class for at least couple more seasons easy. People here actually want to get rid of him lmao.
There's plenty of blame to go around in our CL issues at least.
However while it's true the players were awful in the Roma leg however Valverde shares the biggest blame of it. The way he set the team up and how he responded. In the first leg vs Roma the warning signs were there, Roma were threatening and were unlucky in a number of cases.
Valverde should have looked at that game and see what was wrong and made the proper adjustments for the return leg and with a different game plan. However Valverde decided to stick with a defensive 4-4-2 and sit back.
This team isn't built to sit back without the ball to defend a lead for 90 mins we aren't Juventus or Atletico in that regard. It was a total disaster and the worst thing is Valverde did very little to fix things until it was to late.
He didn't do "Very little", he did nothing. It could even be argued he wanted to lose, considering his first sub came on only after we needed a goal, and the sub in question was fucking Andre Gomes of all people.
I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get over that one.
That substitute is one for the history books. And this quote after the Valencia game , is the icing on the cake.
Valverde: "I was thinking about this match before we played Roma. Winning against Valencia is very important to us."
This game was the worst I have ever felt. Yeah the 7-0 thrashing by Bayern was bad but we had a lot of problems that season. Considering Tito had cancer and was not there for a good chunk of the season, we had a lot of injuries including Messi who wasn't even fit in either legs.He didn't do "Very little", he did nothing. Its very strange some of the targets on here. And as upset with Roma leg 2 and particularly irritated with the club caring more about a South African tour than running the whole league, who could have possibly complained with the situation after the Super Cup bombing and Neymar leaving all about 13 months ago? Most of the players--particularly the core players, played great last year. And the Roma swoon happened with Pique and Busquets playing through injury last spring and Rakitic having to pull double duty.
If anything I blame Umtiti for being mentally distracted (didn't pick up the slack with other hobbling--I do think off the pitch stuff affect his focus down the stretch), Valverde for not rotating more in league (think the whole team was taxed by april), and of course the club for doing the South African visit before La Liga was over (to me the worst offense as totally avoidable with priorities strait). But the core players, particularly the vets and particularly Rakitic, played their guts out to win 2 trophies and get to a 4-1 1st leg lead. Rakitic this summer (world cup) further showed he is truly one of the elite all around midfielders in the world--it wasn't just Modric but the two of them owned everybody they faced.
I don't think anybody wants to get rid of him per se.
You guys have to understand that the core team is ageing - and you also have to remember how our board rolls when it comes to transferring these senior players when they sort of become obsolete so to speak.
We never manage to sell them - Only let them leave for free or let them leave for peanuts like we did with Villa!
And we already have other legends that would end up being old right around the same time and will be managed in the same way in the near future - Pique, Jordi Alba, Busquets, Suarez and it hurts to say so but Leo.
It would be disrespectful to not let Messi have his way when it comes to leaving - But others are absolutely just people who have been employed and we need not hold a lot of sentiment in trying to cut our losses while letting them leave. Rakitic is definitely one of the first such guys, in that age bracket! Yes it is Suarez that we should be try and sell first - But unfortunately there's a slim chance of that happening and the next guy in the line is Rakitic!!
So let them leave for free then, or however they want, do we have to cashout on every 30 year old that we have? Get rid of those like Suarez who have clearly declined and aren't barca level no more, but those who are world-class and have a lot of experience, there is no need to sell them, having a team of all 20 year olds isnt very good too.
