just remembered rakitic making verratti look like the best mf in the world in that 4-0 defeat against psg, whilst verratti looked completely out of his element playing against the madrid trio last season

the guy is just consistently outperformed when facing the best midfielders in the world. should definitely sell him for anything above 60m+

Improvin' Perfection!!
Depth wasn't what made us drop out last season.

Depth was definitely one of the reasons

However, the depth would still be better than last season notwithstanding Rakitic's departure

Coutinho replaced Iniesta who can arguably contribute better than an old Iniesta did

Vidal replaced Rakitic who may or may not be as good - But, going by the teams and managers for whom Vidal had been a starter, he would at least be as good as Rakitic was last season - who are we kidding, Rakitic was not exactly the second coming of Scholes or any thing the previous year - it's just that Croatia has reached the WC finals and he's all of a sudden achieved some kind of a cult status!

The other midfielders that have left - Paulinho & Gomes are replaced by Rafinha & Arthur both of whom are better than their predecessors - not to mention the up coming promising Cantera midfielders coming up and Roberto who would probably be more available in midfield if Semedo cements his place!

Contrast to the popular belief that we would lose out on depth if Rakitic was sold, we would still be better off than last season with or without Rakitic!

PS: The reason why depth was one of the reasons for the team to drop out was - your squad is not considered to be deeply equipped just because you have more number of players. The additional players should be good enough to step in when needed and also provide options for a new approach when the starting XI is not performing. Neither Gomes nor Denis Suarez could be considered to be the guys providing depth to the squad

Rakitic didn't even start that match lmao. Busi, Gomes, and Iniesta were the ones getting outplayed.

Rakitic >> Busi

rakitic went into the game at 73´ minute, it was already 4:0, verratti was out at 71´ minute

what about the other match? 6:1 match, where rakitic was actually a starter and played majority of the match? where was verratti?

Wow, snap.

I'm just puzzled by how many people would easily and gladly get rid of a player who has rightfully been our starting CM for the past 4 years, and is still only 30. He may not be a key player in the sense that he's the star on the pitch, but he's definitely key if you take into account how much he has been involved in whatever we accomplished in the past 4 years. The guy's had over 50 apps in every season and has started most of those, IIRC. Easily one of the most underrated players, among FCB supporters and others alike.

👏👏👏👏

It was comedy gold seeing r/barca going into meltdown over us not signing Seri even though Rakitic is 2x the player

Strange if anything r/Barca are notorious hardcore Rakitic fans going as far as claiming he's a complete Midfielder.

Says Rakitic will definitely stay at Barça. At no time have the club ever wanted to sell him.

And Messi got nuttmuged by Rabiot and made him look like prime Seedorf by loosing the possession which resulted in one goal . Rakitic also faced Kroos and Modric last season . Literally both gave him a guard of honor for the run and the pass which he gave to Roberto .
