Been one of our most important players this season -> has a bad game = z0mg must selll1!1!!!!
It's kind of a catch 22, isn't it? One of the most important players, because he plays EVERY match from start to finish? Someone, who does that must be important.

Looks like people will either say he's shit(he's not) or do that with the article.....

If he's the most underrated midfield superstar in the World then that must mean he's irreplaceable. So give Rakitic another payrise as Bartomeu promised him and a contract extension until 2023.

Right?

You don't let a superstar like that leave over a petty contract dispute.

Lol, he's 'quietly vital'.

Come on, he's neither world class, nor shit, nor anything. He's a very good player that is absurdly overplayed as if he's some sort of a midfield legend. Like we couldn't string two passes without him. He's so vital that he needs to play vs Cultural Leonesa so we can beat a 3rd division side. The fuck is wrong with this forum, jesus... Looks like an episode of the Twilight Zone at times.

Fucking joke. If he's so vital, you wouldn't fucking waste his legs or risk getting him injured vs some pub level team like Leonesa, would you? I mean, you surely would want to make sure your most vital players get proper rest and are fresh for the big stages right? Apparently not.

Compare the anonymity of most of his performances to that of Vidal who is literally everywhere or even Busquets recently who's contributed a lot going forward. IMO Vidal has been a bigger part of our recent resurgence in midfield and before that it was Arthur prior to his injury.

Rakitic is a very good player but nowhere near good enough to warrant this absolute steadfast position above any other midfielders in the pecking order. They have all had up and down periods and it can be very well argued that Rakitic has been the most inconsistent, only comparable to Busquets.

To win in the CL we need to win the midfield battle and we need all the quality we can offer. IMO Vidal is a must in the CL going forward given how important it is to have motion in offense and high energy in defense. Arthur at his best has been so effective at tying everything together and giving us control over the match. This is what gives Messi/Dembele and co. a platform to do their work. Coutinho is also always an option off the bench if Arthur just isn't creating enough and we need to focus on offense.

Rakitic and Busquets need to battle it out for that last spot because it is clear that Rakitic's main role is defense now and he contributes the least to offensive chance creation. Even Busquets is outplaying him in xG buildup and key passes per game. Both have been inconsistent (though I think Busi has been clearly better recently) and should be rotated based on their form.

'silent domination' is what red cafe goers used to call rooney's performances post 2014. only fitting we have 'quietly vital' rakitic. :valverde:

I wouldn't say he's that vital or irreplaceable these days.

I think we are better off just using him as a DM these days. He's far suited there due to his decline in some areas than CM.

Arthur (Cou/Aleñá) - - - - Vidal (Aleñá)
- - - - - - - - - - Busi (Raki/Oriol)

Everyone knows by now that this is our best midfield against the top teams except one who has the biggest responsibility for the team:valverde2:

That article makes it sound like he's the only midfielder who's ever tackled an opponent lol. The distance covered statistics clearly reveal that he's not a "workhorse" or "the lungs of the team" by any means. Maybe if he starts to play less, he'll run more, but for now, his workrate is average for a top CM if not lower.
