Truth be told he was kinda spoiled by being guaranteed starting spot. As was Pique and Busquets. Just another of Valverde's gifts.

Seen Alba on nuclear fuel while fighting for a new contract? Seems noone understands how to keep those brats motivated.

I used to like him but over these past 2 seasons he's become too arrogant, entitled and smug even.

Too bad he didn't realise Valverde's treatment of him, guaranteeing him a place in our 11 regardless of how poorly he played, actually worked very much against him. He got too comfortable, too complacent and his football dropped off a cliff.

Rakitic was never supremely talented like Modric, he's a piano carrying type. He needs to be on top of his game physically, mentally and competitively. Last season even his diagonals disappeared, his work-rate became statuesque and he had no balls in games that mattered. We all saw him hiding at Anfield, standing still. And when he hasn't got any of that, what else has he got apart from the odd long shot? Very very little, out of all of our midfielders, only Vidal is less comfortable on the ball than him for instance.

I'm absolutely certain that performance was what pushed the board to be so adamant he leaves.

Anyway, it's too late now for Ivan; I'm sure he's gonna look back at that interview - the one he went out of his way to set up - with Mundo Deportivo and cringe.

Rakitic came and seemed like a good humble dude willing work for the team.

But I think the success and praise got to his head in the past several years and What made it worse is we brought in a coach who did little to keep these guys in check but instead let that crap fester. Dude had the balls to beg for a contract renewal and say "FDJ plays a different position to me so my place is safe".

His interviews in general just rubbed people the wrong way and add to his declining performances on the pitch you get people just asking him to fuck off.

According to Cristobal Soria, Rakitic and Juventus had an agreement, but Barca didn't facilitate a transfer since Juventus being the cheap fuckers they are didn't want to offer any money and simply swap a player.

So now Rakitic's decided to stay despite Valverde telling him he no longer counts on him. Presumably as a fuck you to the club for not giving him the big money contract he begged for publicly by using his contacts in Mundo Deportivo and Sport, and for not letting his royal highness leave in a lopsided deal, this is my opinion obviously and not Soria's.

Dembele will get a number of games still if Neymar doesn't come.

But Rakitic? this one will be interesting to watch. Will Valverde live by those words or he will eventually buckle under pressure from Rakitic and play him again. I don't think he will be completely frozen out Arda Turan style but the number of games he will get will dramatically go down.

Tbh he wasn't even that good in his first season as people claim he was.

When we won the treble a lot of revisionism started taking place and result-oriented people started claiming how it was a good choice to go for him instead of Kroos.

In reality, Kroos was always levels above Rakitic and we should have gotten him from Bayern who instead went to Real. Things would have been pretty different now had we gone for Kroos.

I hate him as much as the next guy. But he was definitely world class in 14/15. Our midfield came out on top versus Pogba, Marchisio, Vidal, and Pirlo in the CL final (they won the midfield v RM in the semis), and also came out on top versus Thiago, Bastian, and co in Bayern.

Busquets was top tier that season, and so was Iniesta. But Rakitic was an important cog in supporting MSN and shielding the defense. We only conceded 37 goals in 60 games across all competitions with a backline of Alba, Old Masche, Pique, and Alves.

You have it backwards. Our defense was great that season, Pique and Alves especially but our midfield was nothing special.

Busquets and Iniesta were great in 15/16, but Rakitic was our most important midfielder in 14/15. Without him, we got overrun badly by PSG and Madrid at the start of the seasonz

Rakitic's tactics of leaking stuff to the press won't work this time around. And staying here against the club's vehement wishes would not be wise. There's no point playing Joey Big Bollocks when it's over already.

Barto will probably have him in the stands for half a season and then send him back to Sevilla, unless there's some desperate club in January like an Inter or a Man United.

Rakitic can't apply any pressure so unless Ernies main options fail i don't see Rakitic getting close to the starting 11 again.

He isn't just out because of club politics but also because Frenkie and Sergi moving to midfield. Especially Roberto is a big factor because he is like the perfect EV approved replacement for Rakitic.

Another fresh leak from Rakitic's entourage (as per MD's own words even)

Rakitic aguantó ayer la presión del PSG

“Nada ha cambiado”, aseguraron fuentes cercanas al croata sobre los intentos del club francés por ficharle

-

Rakitic withstood pressure from PSG yesterday

Nothing has changed - said people close to him

-

MD say he's angry at being shopped around and is adamant he wants to stay, they also say he's for the signing of Neymar but he wants to play with him here in Barcelona.

-

I wouldn't be surprised to see him out of Valverde's 18 man squad.
