Jack Wilshere

He hasn't progressed the way people expected him to, but to say he hasn't improved since he was 17 is ridiculous. I would question whether Scholes even saw him play at that age.

A decent interview with him. - http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/may/14/jack-wilshere-arsenal-hull-city-fa-cup-final

Unfortunately for him it's been another season with injuries and inconsistent performances. I can only think of something like 3-5 performances where he really stood out. Most of the time he seems too eager to make a difference and usually just ends up getting caught in possession. Too much of a liability to be played as one of two central midfielders at the moment.

Still, he's slightly improved his efficiency in front of goal and has also assisted more goals than before. If he can stay fit I still think we'll see some actual progress for real this time.

It's kinda sad that this guy has what I perceive as a chronic bad foot. Same foot same stress break. Sometimes things are unfair.... Honestly I can't see him surviving the game in 5 years........

IIRC There was a guy around here who wanted Wilshere to replace Xavi last summer

I like Wilshere, but his injury record and all the usual overhyping by the english media didnt and wont do him any favours.

The injuries have killed the hype somewhat, he just needs to stay fit and play for a sustained period. The English media (sunday supplement mob) always overhype, then burn. It's the standard MO.

Comparing him to Henderson is like comparing apples to oranges. Now I like apples and I like oranges :D

I'd play both of them for England in a diamond.

Very good performance. It wasn't the overly aggressive Wilshere that you usually see these days.
In fact, he played with an unusual maturity in that game and released the ball just in time to escape pressure. Just like he used to do when he broke onto the scene.
He never really went to ground either and that was good to see. There is no reason for him to waste energy and risk injuries by constantly throwing himself into tackles against physically superior players.

I would like to see him start for England now in the World Cup. He's certainly a lot better than Lallana on the right and he could also either bench Henderson or play as a number ten. It's a waste not to play him if he's mentally up for it.
