While I agree with you, I do have to note that Kompany made his reappearance at that time after 3 months of injury and was probably missing some match fitness.

I think that Kompany is awesome; just that, like most of Man City's team, his last season was not one of his best, IMO - more to do with Mancini, than Vincent?
Definitely quick and can tackle; a leader on and off the pitch.

Never said he was perfect. Every defender makes mistakes, even Messi misses a lot of great chances every season. But positioning is one of his strenghts, as is anticipation.
This season wasn't his best, but last season he was definitely the best defender in the world. Also voted Premier League Player of the Year, which isn't that easy for a defender (only Vidic won it also).

Ah fair enough I didn't realise that.
Of course, I rate him very highly, just not quite at the level of TS and a couple of others. I would welcome him in a Barca shirt.

I could go to the Barca office and kick all their scouts on their butt, including the stupid Sporting Director... But the possibility of Cruyff and Rosell fighting in the media over the fact of all the money that we could have saved if we signed him last season is giving me incredible joy
BTW I'd prefer us to sign Inigo instead of Vertonghen... I mean he wouldn't probably cost more than what Vertonghen would with the stupid Levy holding his rights, would only demand half as much wages and the Basque wouldn't need extra time to get used to our team!!

He has the same release clause as Illaramendi afaik, which means he'd set us back a good 40M Euros. Crazy money for someone like Inigo.

Illaramendi cost them 39 M... So ideally we should be able to sign him for a bit less : Illaramendi being a bigger star and all, and also him being a mid fielder compared to Inigo who is only a CB. Also Real Sociedad are interested in JDS! So we could use him to reduce the price a bit more!!
All in all we could be able to sign him for some where around 30 M... And IMHO Vertonghen would cost around the same too, if not more, as it's Levy we would be dealing with!!

JDS is staying though. I do not believe they will sell him for less than his release clause; especially since they would want their team to stay together now they've sold Illaramendi. We might try to bargain with them, but I do think you'll have to pay up his release clause value (whatever amount that may be).

This late in the window, with Sociedad facing ChL qualifiers, I doubt they'd settle for anything less that his release clause.
I agree about Vertonghen, though. He'd cost crazy money too. If they came at the same price, I'd much prefer the seasoned Belgian.
