I'd still take him over vermaelen any day. And he wasn't that bad at ajax, or in his 1st year at spurs.

Tim Sherwood sounds like a bitter fool, Vertonghen is quality. He's the Belgian defender we should have got.

He was good before getting there. He might have regressed there, but during his time in ajax he was quality. Also, when is vermaelen fit? Look how many games he played in the past seasons. Jan would had been a better buy only for that.

If Vermaelen is injured for the next few years then almost any CB would have been better but Vertonghen is poor at almost everything a defender at Barca would face - isolated with people running at him in a high line.

Vertonghen was always massively over rated by a lot of people on here. He wouldnt be one of the top 4 CBs at the club but people would speak about him as if he would be the top man.
