He is one of my current favourites.... he was THE man at Ajax and also showed excellent quality at Spurs. Barca should take him, he was already ready for Barca a year ago

which papers are you talking about who said jan is coming to barca.... can you clarify more....
any concrete news about jan coming to barca?
i think he is great i mean considering our situation right now he is great for us.
he is trained at ajax and PL experiance as defender counts a lot.....

Always been a proponent of Vertonghen at Barca, but how do you think he suits Pique? I think that he, like Hummels, is too much a 'footballing' CB. Pique should become more of a stopper, or I think it won't be the best combination out there. I love the combination of a stopper and a builder, like Puyol-Pique.

Koscielny is a better defender than Vertonghen for me.

Vertonghen struggles with pacy/technical players running at him and is hugely more protected at Spurs than he will be at Barca and plays deeper there also which hides his lack of pace.

If an attack was breaking and running at a CB give me Koscielny over Vertonghen any day.

He doesn't have a notable lack of pace, many are overrating pace on CB's as if they have to be as fast as Silva or they are considered boulders. Koscielny is good too, I'd actually put them around equal in ability but Vertonghen is more suited for Barca imo.

Besides, having 70% of possession and being tested far less at Barca is just as protected as sitting deeper in defense at Spurs.

No chance is having posession the same as protecting CB with two DMs and full backs that dont both bomb on.

Vertonghen is not even close to being as good a defender as Koscielny.

Koscielny is the definition of a skilfull, really fast stopper. Instead you want to bring in another slow "builder" like Pique and make Pique into a stopper? Making him a stopper isn't going to make him faster or more agile...

And why does every goalie and defender we are linked with have to have Pele like ball control and passing? I want a goalie who STOPS goals from going in- I don't give a shit if he can hit a 6x6 piece of cardboard from 40 yards with his foot. People are acting like Puyol has great control, vision and passing ability. He doesn't and he never did. He is average in all of those, but he was a brilliant defender with decent pace, great strength and full of heart.

He played DM man times for Ajax.

But what I meant was he is the same as Masch and Pique in that he likes to step out with the ball and will push out of defence if other team have the ball.

Another player like that is not needed.

In my opinion he is not a great defender.
