I disagree, Vertonghen is a better left back and has proven that multiple times.
In this particular case however, he did terrible

Vermaelen can atleast beat a man and link up with Hazard. Off all the times Jan had the ball at left back he passed it sideways 99% of the time

Agree with Wouter, Vertonghen wasn't good but he's still miles ahead of Vermaelen at left back. Wilmots played him LB in a friendly and he didn't do great, even when he played at CB he was poor. There's a reason why Vermaelen is benched by Van Buyten even though he's 36 and barely played this season.

Before you guys start hating on me, I get this info from a very good friend who is not a journalist but close to club. Believe or not, Im just simply passing the information as I always do.

-Barca is having advance negotiations with Vertonghen's agent.

What's so fun about that name? ;)

Btw, is he really Barca-quality? I suppose we're after him because he can play CB and LB, just like Mathieu? But he'd be considerably more expensive than Mathieu I think.

I think he would be available for around the 25m mark so a little bit more that Mathieu but i would say he is a lot more talented. He is very good on the ball and a leader. He also can cover lb but he is alot more comfortable playing cb and i think you would do well to buy him. Last season wasn't one to remember for him and i imagine he is keen to leave spurs. I personally think he would be comfortable making the step up to playing week in and out at barca.

Not quite... he's not on the level of T.Silva, Ramos, Piqué,... but he has potential and he is a realistic transfer target.
He's left footed, a leader with a great pass,... I wouldn't mind him tbh
