I´d rather see us spend 20m on him than on Mathieu. Younger, PL experience :)rosell:), can play LB too, and looks like a fighter out there.

Had a bad season, but he's better than Mathieu, not to mention 4 years younger. If we can really get him for around 25m, I'd much rather spend it on him than Mathieu. Definitely don't think he's ideal though.

The whole forum was raging for us to sign him during the last summer transfer window. 1 bad season with a self-imploding Spurs team and suddenley his quaity dropped ten fold?

that was because last summer we wanted a cb badly after Bayern humiliated us not minding if they will be a good fit or not.By the way who is the fastest between verthogen, pique and hummels

Vertonghen is the fastest out of those 3.

Frank de Boer supposedly recommended him to us and rated him as a perfect signing for Barca before he moved to Spurs. does anyone else remember that rumour or know if it's true?

Yep, fairly certain that was true (saw a lot of quotes at the time).

De Boer said he doesn't understand why Barcelona aren't interested, he's the perfect player for us; Ajax captain and youth player, just won the league as player of the year, fairly fast and strong, can play CB and LB, very cheap etc. etc. But instead we bought... :song:

Oh and he was bought for around €15m while we paid €20m for Song, I think?

I think Vertonghen could be a good addition. But he is no LB in my eyes. 15-20 mil. would be ok and Mathieu hopefully stays in Valencia.

Tottenham insist they have no intention of selling defender Jan Vertonghen this summer. Spurs will resist all offers for the Belgium international, despite interest from Barcelona, who have yet to make contact with the north Londoners.[Sky sports]

No he doesn't, and Spurs usually get top money for players they'd rather keep. Best move on and find another defender

Daniel Levy, their chairman, is a real pain to negotiate with and will make sure he gets every last penny out of the buying club.

We are probably getting Mathieu which rules out signing another left footed defender I guess.

Vertonghen is off the table.
