Is he injured? Based on yesterday's game, there is no way he can ever play for Barca.

I'm wondering the same thing. As I said in another thread I've always thought he wasn't worth 40m, but the way some people are talking on here you'd think he was a completely useless player.

Very few players are worth 40M, but Barca and Madrid have inflated the market to such a degree that this is what happens.
I never rated him. It seems to me that on this forum any player from other liga clubs is hyped up. People here seriously wanted Adrian FFs
But when we have the balls to try and sign a truly world class player (eg cesc, villa) people say "too much money"
Excuse me but were about to pay forty fucking million on a very average player in Martinez. We have no need for a box to box player who is only slightly good at everything.id father have someone that's world class at one thing and play him in only one position
Of course people here think a good performance every other game in the liga against the likes of betis and soceidad makes someone barca material. It definitely does not. They need far more than that to be of the quality of his club

He's a good player but not worth 40 million.

Judging him based on one game against Betis is just as bad as panning him for one bad game on an awful Spain where Montoya was even worse.
For what it's worth I think paying 40M to waste Javi Martinez as a CB is a horrible idea. Him and Pique do not compliment each other at all. Also Adrian is incredibly overrated.
But Javi Martinez is a very good footballer and a complete midfielder, you sound like me talking about Cesc though so I know not to bother.
There's no way on Earth Martinez is worth €40m. Every time I've saw him play, be it for Athletic or Spain, I've always felt a bit underwhelmed, truth be told. He doesn't look anything special in my book, and certainly isn't worth the figures that have been banded about the past few weeks. I agree that we need a CB/DM but I wouldn't have Martinez as that player. There's better ways to utilise our budget than to blow it all on this guy.
