Javi Martínez

I know he'd cost Alot but hummels is ideal. Young talented natural cb, who is good on the ball. Tempting him away from Dortmund will be hard though, they don't want to let go of him. He would be the long term replacement for puyol as we know he is aging and having injury troubles.

I think when going for puyol replacement we should not settle for second best, as it's our long term future in that position, and puyols shoes are hard to fill.

We can't be compromising and Martinez would be a second best option. The position is too important and puyol needs a replacement without too much drop in quality

It's a bit like the signing of cesc, seems expensive and unreasonable at the time but he's Xavi replacement along with thiago (I know he plays striker but that's only because Xavi is still around, he is being groomed as his replacement, look at the Leverkusen game for example)

He would cost less than Martinez, that's for sure.

Puyol the wall

sent-up-the-bomb
I thought Puyol was a midfielder, man winger striker and ends up as one of the best CB's.

Edit:Apparently he started as a Goalkeeper and due to shoulder injuries he switched to striker and then he joined La Masiah and switched to play as a Defensive Midfielder and then played as a RB for the B team and finally ended up as a CB.

He was a winger, you're banned from posting as well :pep:

i just dont see this guy being worthy of a CB spot at Barca,he is a good all rounded player but not good enough for our 1st team
he is like a more defensive Keita

I would cry if we spent fort million on him. It would be even worse than the Ibra deal. He is not world class and never will be at centre back or dm. He lacks the pace or positioning to cope in our high line defence. He also gets sent off alot

He would work in the premiership against teams that whip it in the box so he can head or boot the ball away, not against a team with any technical ability though

If. We want a puyol replacement it has to be the best available one

No compromising

I agree with people who think this guy is not the right option for barca... he is way too slow ( not only physically but also mentally in terms of reading the games at the back), he is kind of clumsy in my opinion! Ive seen him many time miss timing his tackles or miss calculating his interceptions. He gets dribbled way too easily and when he is on the ball it takes him forever to make up his mind and play the ball.

I just think he is not the right person for us, whether its £35 or £20 or £15! he is just overrated.

Martinez being "too slow" is a myth... He's as fast as any of the WC defenders out there.

He looks clumsy because he only recently started playing a CB... He only looked as clumsy as did Mascherano the previous season

This +100000

However Javi Martinez is best as a CM, he's learned the game playing as a box to box player, not a defensive one.
