It is a private event. They can invite who they want.

Sure but if they are too restrictive the ESL will lose the glamour and grandeur that they want, which will supposedly make them a lot of money.

They just want the most money and the more tier 1 clubs they get, the better. It is a league or event that focuses on making money for the participants, not trying to regulate spending to make it more fair for anybody.

Madrid are basically the grandest club there is in European football, they have more titles than the whole English sides combined and them some. Any competition where Madrid competes hard in, especially with Barca in it too to build the rivalry, will be shiny and very attractive. Won't take long before Bayern will get drawn in, and then EPL sides will have to join too.

Without Barca, Madrid and other powerhouse clubs, CL immediately gets downgraded to bellow EPL standard.

No chance would Barca suffer more than most with FFP rules that are consistent with what other teams in that competition face.

It would help Barca massively compared to now.

Well, when the new UEFA FFP is in place which ties the wage bill to a percentage of the revenue, I think we will be more likely to be dinged than anybody else as we spend more than most clubs and our revenue hasn't kept up with our spending.

This is still very early with ESL, but the way UEFA is going at it, it's the only way to block the Qataris and get them to behave.

If it is just us, Madrid and Juventus with some other non-tier 1 clubs initially, it certainly won't be able to compete with the CL, in terms of anything (viewership, revenue etc.).

I still think this ESL thing will fail, at least it will take another decade to ferment before it can successfully launch.

Initially, of course every start is gonna be slow, but fail? You need to define the meaning of that. Even opening that door and proposing an alternative to what is currently a UEFA monopoly is a huge success.

The only thing they should not touch is domestic competitions. La Liga, EPL, these are the backbone of the football culture. CL and the UEFA crooks? Expendable and replaceable in time.

Fail as in not being able to generate enough money for the participating clubs to replenish the lost income from UEFA, and not making significant profit for those investors and funds banking on the ESL. Perhaps they can hold out for a year or even two years, if longer than that I think they will all want to withdraw from it.

So last-last agreement between La Liga and the Spanish government will most likely avert the strike. La Liga and its club's rights to participate in the CVC deal are protected, the government made the concession. Also La Liga will be shielded from any changes and modifications the RFEF seeks to make, they will not happen without La Liga's approval. However, the new sports law will continue to shield us, Madrid and any other clubs from joining the ESL, that remains unchanged.

With our famous levers and the sale of our TV rights future revenues, it never made sense to suggest ESL meant we would leave LaLiga. It would also be against our interests and liabilities to do that.

La Liga may well now be the weakest of 'Big 5 leagues'.

In terms of talent it is absolutely horrendous from mid down and as poor as ever above that.

League is full of players that are not even Championship level in England and with a merry go round of average at best coaches.

Has very little going for it bar brand names of Real and Barca.

Losing the best players and quality managers to EPL. Now majority of teams in the top standings are Europa level except Madrid for obvious reasons.

Saying it is the weakest of the top 5 is hyperbole. The EPL goes without saying, how is Serie A better? Or Ligue 1? Bundesliga?

Are we judging this simply by the clubs' performance in Europe in the current season or something?
