Still not the biggest fan of loaning him in the first place but this deal turned out way better than what was posted before.

He will have to be really good for Schalke to buy him because they have to decide after just half a season and they aren't all that rich. Including the add-ons and the loan fee he'd be their record signing by a decent margin.

Schalke's revenues are very good so i think they could budget for him if he really impressed

High revenues but they can't throw around money like the PL clubs can for example. Buying Todibo would most likely take up the majority of their budget so definitely a big investment.

Still possible of course, i'm just saying he has to be really good.

Schalke's record transfer fee is 26,5M for Breel Embolo in 2016, they didn't pay more than 20M for any other player. Todibo will have to really impress them to pay 25M for him. I'm pretty sure he'll return in summer, hopefully he'll still play a lot.

Only Utd, City, Liverpool, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal make more annual revenue than Schalke. But their means doesn't necessarily influence their market behaviour

Higher revenue doesn't always automatically result in a higher budget though.

Just an example: Over the last 5 years Schalke had net spendings of like 30M, in the same time Everton spent 250M, Watford 140M, Wolverhampton 225M etc

Its possible for them of course, but it's quite a big investment.

Revenues directly inform the overall budget of running a club but not transfer expenditure yes

German clubs are known for being frugal. Bayern have had Javi Martinez as their record signing up until recently

Araújo is not a good defender. Seem to be a set-piece specialist like Yerry Mina.

I haven't watched him except those couple of minutes agains Sevilla before he got a red card. Have you watched him playing for Barca B? Why do you think he is worse than Todibo?

Seen a few games. He's clumsy on the ball and out of position a lot.

To be honest with you I'm unsure whether Todibo is that great as well, but he had the pace and athleticism we lack in our central defence.

Another decision that should be universally castigated here but isn't. This forum has gone from being a cauldron of negativity and hate to a gaggle of extreme positivity all in the space of a few days

What a bizarre turn of events.

Nothing quite takes the edge off the excitement & good fortune of Setien's appointment than yet another painful reminder of the utter incompetence of this board & their nonexistent if not rudderless sporting strategy

Mental that he has been sent off like this and theoretically could be gone for 25-30M - no chance we could sign a player of similar potential/age for that price on the market and yet we'll be talking about an aging Pique & unreliable Umtiti this summer

We are run by idiots in what looks like a cash grab to fund a big summer transfer like Neymar

This should mean that Schalke now has incentive to play him quite often to see if they can fork 25m for him in the summer.

Their record signing was 20M + incentives for Breel Embolo who was an exciting attacker back then. They are very unlikely to buy Todibo anyway unless he proves to an absolute bargain.
He will need to have the kind of imposing presence in order to get that kind of money.
I think those buy options aren't really considered by both clubs. Sort like the Gomes Ballon Dór clauses
May be they will like him and work a different type of deal in summer.

Worst case for the loan would be barely getting any minutes at all. But then same problem, let's say things go wrong and he just plays some minutes here and there for Schalke this season because they bench him.

If he won't play for Schalke, he will never play here either.

I know, there is always one De Bruyne and Salah example, but in 95% of cases if you won't set the world on fire, you surely won't do it at Barcelona.

If someone will reply: he could be good for a 4th pick.
Well, even then he needs some experience and playing time.
So, he will either need experience from previous clubs, like Matthieu or Lenglet, which he hasn't.
Or: he needs a loan to Schalke or to a smaller club, which is exactly what we are doing.

Also, remember, me and some guys said 2-3 years ago that Barca will repeat the same scenario in the future in order to earn money: buy cheap defenders, resell them later for profit unless if they turn to be amazing.
Marlon, Mina, Todibo.

Todibo is more likely a similar project than a future Barca player.
Unless if he will set the world on fire soon...
