Are Suarez and Modrid one one of the players you mentioned? This EPL circejerk needs to stop, Erikson is a good player, but costs too much and not the kind of player we should go all in for.
Eriksen is good with final passes and shooting but that is not what we need. I think we are the only top team to have been beaten with big scores more than two times this season in UEFA, 3-1 mancity, 4-0 PSG, 3-0 Juventus.
This should point us towards increasing defensive cover in midfield. Eriksen may be hardworking as some say but that is entirely different from being good defensively.
Seri on the other hand is the worst option as far as defense is concerned. He is not good at pressing and not reliable in tackling. He has very good vision, can dribble and pass but we need that guy who will apply pressure, and win the ball instead of just waiting for others to do it for him. Same applies for Coutinho
Having said this, Verratti is for me the best best best option ever for our midfield out there in the market. He has no major weakness (perhaps height and aerial presence). He can tackle, press, has good vision, dribbles, can shoot occassionally, excellent passing range and has flair with good ball control.

Very well said! I agree, that defensive skill is one of best things with Verratti and obviously it's tough to take the ball off his feet.

True, but our defensive problems are not down to one player but a team defending...we are the only top team defending completely different depending on our lines. Attackers either stand on sides or do suicide pressing, our mid 3 is left alone in the big hole and then our defenders try last moment tackles.
That means we have players who are not smart in defending.
You can blame the system also you want but for you to have a good defence you need to have
First, players who know how to defend
Second, a system that can use that ability to defend
Xavi for instance was very good at defence. He knew where to be positioned so that the opponent is caught stranded, and surrounded and then somebody else takes the ball and we start our own attacks
Conversely, we have players like Neymar who try so hard in defence but really clueless. Every time he tackles it's a foul etc.
All I am saying is, we need both. System and players.
The system set is there to get the best out of the players' already existing defensive qualities. Even Messi has good defensive abilities but he hardly ever deploys them.
From what I have seen of Seri, the guy has very low defensive ability. Something that should never be spoken of in a CM

He is a good alternative if Verratti doesn't happen and he joins PSG's squad for preseason. Seri and Semedo are two good options who are actually attainable. They could very well make the leap to top class status in 1 season.
I see a player who is not scared to touch the ball in close space situation and who can pass. He's not as shinny as other options, but he has quality for sure. He'd improve us and that's what is all about this summer.

Maybe some kind of agreement? Because normally that's not allowed in France unless it has been changed.
AFAIK its not mandatory to have a release clause in France, its not banned.

To have a good defencee, players need to be skilled in defence then the system should make the most of their skills in defence.
You can blame the system all you want but if your players don't know how to tackle, are too afraid to tackle, are too weak to win a duel, you will always be in the same bad situation
