If you add what the club paid for Arda, Gomes and Paulinho, you can get a top quality player who can improve the team. But instead we have 3 useless players with high wages and low market value.

Mahrez was the best player in the Premier League in that season where he scored lots of clutch goals. Completely different

And Leicester bought Kante for only 8m euros when he was clearly good enough for a rich team. Not all quality players are signed by rich teams. We managed to get Umtiti as well, and he wasnt strongly linked to any rich team.

Yeah I know they are different, Mahrez was one of the best players in the world in that season and was named best Player in a much stronger league.
Problem is that Mahrez didn't manage to stay on the same level after that season, not even close.
So my point is that we shouldn't judge a player by his performance in one single season, especially when we haven't heard of him before that season.

But we're talking 50 million for a guy who might not be better than Rakitic. If we're buying 26 years old I would rather they were established stars at that point. Buying Seri would be a punt in my view. And Paulinho has terrible press but at least his profile is different to current playing staff, whereas Seri might be another crab who passes square all day.

His age is a concern and I prefer Thomas Lemar to Seri. 50m is too much. If we can get him for 40m, its worth it though.

I haven't watched Lemar. Is he a controller in the mould of Verratti, Thiago and Seri?

Xavi has very good opinion on Seri though. He actually said, he is surprised on seeing his quality.

For the puppet bastards that they are, I don't think it would be very hard for them to actually lie on what a player would/won't have said...... Unless of course they are afraid of a player filing a defamation case

His agent pretty much said the same for French media last week so I think it's true.
