I think people take Xavi too seriously.

For Xavi tiki taka is a religion and he is really dogmatic about the adherence to it. Remember, he said Barca were the better side after we got thrashed by Bayern. Why? Because we had more possession!

He is a football legend but like Pele some of his views are questionable at times.

I'm inclined to agree with you.

Xavi's a legend and probably the most intelligent footballer of all time, but he can say some incredibly stupid shit when we lose. I remember him blaming the grass when we were doing badly under Tata (or was that Alves?). Don't think he actually believes that, he's too smart to do so, I think he's just a bit of a sore loser. At least I hope he doesn't believe that kind of shit when he's coaching us.

Also, what we did vs Bayern back then wasn't tiki taka. I hope Xavi doesn't think it was. We stopped playing tiki taka when Pep left. Under Lucho, we finally stopped pretending otherwise. We may have been trying to play tiki taka, but that's not the same as doing it. With Xavi's decline, tiki taka became impossible IMO, at least with the midfielders we have/had. Say what you want about Lucho, but he realized that.

I'm not denying that he basically worships tiki taka, I just don't think he believed that we were actually the better team against Bayern, or that what we did against them was actually tiki taka. I think those statements were just him being a sore loser.

Xavi said in an interview he started watching many Nice games after people told him about an African Xavi that existed in France.

When I was told that a Nice player was nicknamed the "African Xavi,” I followed him very closely. I watched matches and a ton of videos. I didn’t know him... and I was spellbound: I’m not used to seeing such a talent in midfield. Short passing, long passing, tactical intelligence, distance shooting, personality, organizing play, that last magic pass ... "madre mia!” He would do very well at Barça! He can play anywhere in the middle. Seri is fantastic. I can say, without hesitation, that he has what we call "Barça DNA.”

- Xavi

He probably has every channel there in HD.

Xavi strikes as a guy who's sickly addicted to watch football.

Definitely. Just like you, I have also the view that Xavi actually comes a cross as a football fanatic based on his statements in media. I still remember his interview with ESPN a year ago and said that he even follows clubs from lower divisons.

Anyway... I wouldn't really say it's unlikely that Xavi did actually downloaded a lot of Nice matches from 16/17 season just to specifically watch Seri.

I mean, it's not really that hard to find Ligue 1 matches with 720p with 50FPS for free if you are that interested.

Although Seri's interview with MD was published on 28th August, I decided to post this since no one else did it before...

Quotes taken from Barcastuff_, BarcaNewsForum, BarcaSpiral

Seri (Nice): "Barça ruling out my signing? I feel bad by what has happened. I won't lie to you. I already saw myself playing at Camp Nou."

- Seri: "The negotiations were broken because the talks between the clubs went from bad to worse."

- Seri: "From what I have been able to find out, my departure from Nice has not occurred for financial reasons."

- Seri: “I tried to isolate myself from the negotiations because we had a decisive return match against Napoli (last Tuesday)."

- Seri: "But it is impossible to forget that Barça was here to finish my transfer."

- Seri: “I do not make excuses, I just want to make clear the psychological state in which I was before a Champions League game."

- Seri: "I am a player who likes to organise the game, to command, press, but could not be 100 percent. I tried, but it was impossible!”

- Seri:"After the game I was meeting for more than an hour with Barca leaders & they didn't tell me anything about the progress of my signing"

- Seri: “I went home happy and the next day I heard the news. I was stunned to see that the operation had broken down."

- Seri: "Then I went to the offices of Nice to see the leaders to know what had happened. Then I exploded! I assure you the walls trembled."

- Seri: "The leaders of my club did not tell me anything, not even look me in the eye. It was clear that something had happened."

- Seri: "Nice leaders promised me one thing and then it turned out that they did not keep their promise, asking for more money from me.”

- Seri: Chances of Barca signing you? “I want to be optimistic and think that there are still options."

- Seri: "Let two clubs talk quietly again and come to an agreement. We are not talking about any club, where you are going to sign for money.”

- Seri: "I want to play for big European teams. Before Barça, Roma had many offers. The operation failed because of financial reasons."

- Seri: "Roma's leaders got tired of Nice's board! Roma was a good choice, but Barça is my dream. The team I've always supported."

- Seri: "I saw myself playing at the Camp Nou. My agent returned with a 5 year contract offer. Barça represents my childhood dreams."

- Seri: "The way Barça play, their style. I saw myself playing with Messi, Iniesta and other extraordinary Barça players."

- Seri: "I was happy when I saw Xavi's comments about me. It's an honor that someone like him, from my dream club, spoke that way about me."

- Seri: "It was a magical feeling to read his words. My wish is to meet you one day in person and thank you for everything you said about me."

- Seri: "Things were going very well for me lately. I won the best African Player of the Year and was in the Best XI of Ligue 1. Now... this."

- Seri: "I'm going to say one thing very clear. I'm not afraid to go to Barça. I've been a fan since I was a kid. I know how big the club is."

- Seri: "People say Barça ruled me out because of the Napoli game? Wrong."

- Seri: "Now I'm going to be the one who asks you a question: Do you think Barça will pay €30m for a player they do not know? Hmm... no."

- Seri: "I've received lots of support from Barça fans. They have tried to cheer me up. I deeply appreciate that."

- Seri: "I was also told Òscar Garcia, Saint-Etienne coach, felt sorry for what happened to me. Coming from an ex-Barça, it reached my heart."

- Seri: "I thought about not playing in the Napoli game to force my transfer. But I decided to fight for my club."

- Seri: "If I didn't play, I wouldn't have been loyal to my club. I need Nice to have the ball to express my qualities. That didn't happen."

- Seri (when asked about what he thinks will happen now): "I will wait and leave my destiny in the hands of God."

- Seri: "I love Barça and no matter what happens, I will always support them, even though what happened damaged me. Let's wait and see.

These are the kind of players that are passionate about Barca.
We rarely buy such players instead we go after players looking for an easy cruise to trophies with minimum effort e.g Arda and others who don't seem passionate about anything in life e.g Gomes

So he confirmed what some of us thought that happened in the Napoli games. He was in the middle of a transfer to his dream club and he couldn`t get his head completely in the game.

I really feel sorry for the guy.

Let`s hope he will have a fantastic season and maybe we`ll buy him in winter window or next summer.

I actually think Arda was very passionate for coming to Barca...

... So he didn't have to run so much

We can buy him in the winter transfer window and he will be eligible for CL.

Sounds a little too smart for us to do that..
I bet Paulinho gets injured, and the board wants to wait and see what impact he could have in the spring, or some other bullshit excuse.

My theory is: they (Robert?) had Seri lined up late in the transfer window after it was clearer they were going nowhere with Coutinho. He then runs it past Valverde who then watches that Nice match and says no. Cause yes, he didn't watch Seri before, same as 90% of other people and Xavi who only heard of him because someone told him there's a new Xavi in Nice.

Probably Valverde blocked it. Most logical conclusion anyway.

Don't think so. Valverde showed us that he is no more than a yes man. Could be other explanation. Like a internal conflict in the board or maybe Rivere is lying.
