Mathieu will be first choice LB and Masch is going back into midfield so we will still need to buy another CB. Bartra will still get game time.

Mathieu was brought in to play CB. We have Alba and Adriano for the left flank. I doubt he'll ever play LB unless we have an injury crisis.

He might be a good starting cb, if he can just do what Masch did but add height then that's all that's needed, the main problems defensively are tactical.

So many people on this forum demand players they have never watched play. It's ridiculous. It's fair enough to be excited about being linked to a player because of their reputation and it's ok that you don't watch him regularly cause surely he has a reputation for a reason. But to ridicule the board for not signing said player and ridiculing other signings because they don't have a big reputation is incredibly annoying. There are many things to be considered when signing a player. It's not just a case of throwing your money at the flavour of the month. Those are the signings that are incredibly stupid and risky. Just look at what happened with Henrique and Kerrison.

I like this signing a lot. Provides quality competition at both CB and LB.

He still has 2-3 good years left. Plenty of time to find a younger player with long-term perspective.

I am talking about the price tag. For me Mathieu should not be a starter for our team but the board spent 20 mil. for him. A defender of his quality in his 30s should be way cheaper.
I bet most of the people who like this transfer do it because they are desperate about the whole CB saga.

Leave out names and clubs. Club A spent 20 mil. for a 30 year old defender who has won nothing with club B and who was a LB 2 years ago. Now he should play CB at a club who wants to win the CL. That is absurd imo.

I have no insight and do not know who the board tried to go for but there are some names that are about as expensive and Mathieu and are better/more promising than him imo.
Did they really try for Garay, Rojo, Musacchio, De Vrij, Dede, Matip or Toprak? Just some examples.

This "won nothign" argument is bs. This isn't even bad, as he is hungry for them too. And yes, Mathieu was expensive because there aren't many options in the market. He's still quality and will bring balance and stability to the squad.
