Jeremy Mathieu

Well there were rumors around the time that we played them that Lucho wasn't going to continue and Valverde was linked with the job. and Mathieu actually did play under Valverde at Valencia and was the one that started to transition Mathieu into a CB from LB and they were on good terms with each other.

The Bilbao match he's referring to was the one we won 3-0 with Mathieu-Umtiti being the CB pair.

Well he's always been one of those guys that's usually quiet but when interviewed you can get some interesting bits from it.

Remember during the post Anoeta meltdown, he basically confirm there was some sort of issue between Lucho and Messi. that's just how he is.

“I don't know if I would celebrate," "I have a lot of respect for my former team-mates and the fans.

"If I celebrate it will be for Bartomeu and Robert Fernandez"

Some of what Matthieu said in the interview makes no sense to me. If he actually respects the fans and his former teammates, of course he won't celebrate, no two ways about that. And if he wanna send a message to Barto and Robert, just run straight to pitch area in front of the VIP site where those faggots usually sit and yell or swear at them all he wants, he's welcome to do that the whole game!

If I read it correctly.

"When we were playing Bilbao I told Valverde if Lucho is staying I would leave".

He mentions in the Cat Radio interview Lucho, rarely spoke with the players.

Lucho was a strange one. I don't understand why he felt the need to be so distant from the players. Also he seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth.

The odds of him scoring isn't that big, and he probably won't celebrate if he did. He just used the interview to talk about them.

Few days ago, Mathieu made an interview with Catalan program 'Club de la Mitjanit' ahead of CL game between Sporting CP vs. Barca (today).

1. Last year at Barça, I lost my confidence. Luis Enrique doesn't speak a lot with his players. I didn't know what to do to play more.

2. The press slaughtered me. Last year I was under a lot of pressure. I lived it against Juventus. In my opinion, we either win as a team or we lose as a team.

3. Robert told me that he didn't count on me. I wanted to talk with Valverde. I called him, but he thought I wanted to leave.

4. When we played against Athletic, I told him that I would leave if Luis Enrique continued. So Valverde thought I wanted to leave.

5. Valverde is a good coach. He speaks with all the players, the ones who play and the ones who doesn't. Surely they are happy with him.

6. "When I tried talking to Lucho, he was always on the phone with Andre Gomes. Sometimes I tried to call back a couple of hours later, but they were still talking."
7. "After the Juve game the press attacked me hard, It was really difficult for me. I was on two packs of menthol a day."

Love his interviews. You find out more from him than all our players combined.

Encouraging to hear him praise Valverde. :)

Oh, and great match tonight!

I mean it is easy for a single defender to have a good game against us when they have 8 man backline against two attackers lol

mathieu misplaced many passes directly to us, we just had a bad scoring game.
