He won't get the #2 as Montoya has it now and he definitely won't leave. If alves is happy with #15 (Batra #5 ) then you can give Mathieu his favorite #22. Or is there any number Dani Alves can occupy right now? #12 will go for Rafinha mostly. If song leaves #17 will go to Deulofeu

Mathieu is not exactly a guaranteed success. I'm not really counting on him as the definite starter. As of now I put Pique and Bartra ahead of him, until he proves himself. And if by any chance he fail here, 20m is flush down the toilet as no one will pay even 1/4 of what we paid for a 32 years old flop. This deal from an economical point of view was a terrible deal. The only thing we could be happy about is that "finally" a defender has arrived.

I think he should be played at left back instead of Jordi Alba, I wanna see that 3-4-3 arty1:

Look this. The match is Valencia - Barcelona 2:2 (autumn 2011) - Mathieu is a wingback/winger, not a center back. He played well on the left wing under Emery in Valencia.

Because of the RB situation. Alves needs to be covered and Montoya has yet to exert himself. If Barca had a defensive option available for RB, or RCB, then Alba would be more likely to be featured in hypothetical formations.

It could work right now. Bartra-Pique-Mathieu-Alba, same thing really. But I trust Mathieu at LB more than Bartra at RB, despite being the defensive wingbacks they are required occasionally to go forward. Also I prefer Alves as the attacking wingback over Alba, I think he combines better with Xavi and the forwards. Just hope he's asked to stop crossing, period.

Looking to the future tho, need to get rid of the reliance on Alves, so Bartra-Pique-Mathieu-Alba might be the way forward.
