He could be the reason we would have not gotten 3 points. He made some big mistakes against villareal and escaped.Had it been against a big team we would have been punished at least once in his 3 mistakes. He has to stop doing these dumb mistakes.

And meanwhile in the capital, Ramos is making mistake after mistake, costing goal after goal, but is somehow still regarded as one of those rare world class CBs.

Mathieu needs time to settle, just as anyone else. However, it'll be rough on this forum, where people were after his head even before he signed. Then again, we did may 20M for a 37 year old... So yeah, OMG Zubi!

Don't know if this was in response to my post but all I am saying is that he has to stop doing mistakes. He will take some time to settle but he should avoid those silly mistakes.I am far from being rough on him.

TBF to Matheiu only 1 of those 3 was really his fault. That almost own goal saved a real goal from happening as the Villareal player was in a great position for a tapin

People over-exaggerate as usual.

Mathieu only really had one bad mistake, which was the 2 consecutive poor clearances in the same play that lead to the Villarreal shot on the post.

The ball he cleared to the post was a good defensive stop of a dangerous cross that was unlucky to get cleared so close to the goal. The other was a miscommunication with Busquets, that frankly Busquets should have cleared himself instead of shielding the attacker and waiting for someone else to come clear it.

He had a solid performance.

His clearances and passing in general were poor. He'll have to step up there.

You have every right to comment on a player, but it don't seem very wise to do.

If I watched Neymar send that chance to the skies and switched off the TV and said 'He was very meh' then what would you have said?
That you were right

Some poor clearances don't make him a bad player, his aerial ability coupled with his speed have been crucial for us so far. He just lacks a bit of composure which should improve as his confidence grows.

I especially liked one part in the match when he outran a Villareal player on the left flank chasing after the ball (he had a head start on Matheiu) when Alba was out attacking

Don't rush to conclusions guys. He basically played a tough 1:0 away game versus the mighty yellow submarine AND that was the first time that he played with Pique and Bravo. Yeah, 3 mistakes were a bit too many but let's give him a second chance.

Mathieu had a world class first half, but in the 2nd half it seemed like he lost a bit of his confidence after his clearance hit the post.

Look at it from the bright side. He made mistakes but we got away with it. Would be a big blow for his confidence if he hadn't. Like he isn't under enough pressure as it is with age concerns and the pricetag.
Guy took a paycut to join us and looks eager to fight. And yes, Benatia and Ramos never make mistakes.
