1) no new signings
2) dump a few players just to get rid of salary
3) sign CVC


Laporta did NOT want Messi. Messi is not a liar when he wanted to leave he said so when he wanted to stay he said so.

That is the problem, even for free those clubs would not want to pay or could not afford the wages of the players we want to get rid of, or the players themselves don't want to move. Can't put a gun to their head and say leave.

Basically, Laporta told them mid-March that Barca couldn't keep paying them the salaries they had.

Both could be right since there is a difference between telling and starting negotiating. Laporta could have said: "hey, salaries are getting out of hands and we are looking to reduce them." and kept at that without scheduling a meeting.

Well, based on reports before we did inform agents when players were at Euros, which disturbed any chance of early negotiations.
If I am going to jump to conclusions, I think Messi departure made reality hit them hard. Those players has legacy here to an extent and they need to preserve it.
There is probably some players who thought we will find another way to register him while keeping wages

They are obviously BSing big time with lies involved.

They are playing the innocent card now, but they were trying to avoid the paycuts until last moment.
What hit them hard were 2 things:
1) Messi's departure
2) Boos against Umtiti

They didn't want to get in the 2 position, and the fact that 1 happened made them realize that soon they will be in the 2 position UNLESS they concede and FFS reduce their exorbitant salaries

Only Pique agreed early on it without imagining possible repercussions, like 1 or 2
