John Stones

Bojan and Arnautovic made him look like a complete donkey. He was absolutely awful against Stoke. He is far from Barca quality at his current level.

Of course he is. Stones is just another overhyped englishmen. English are really pathetic. It's been so long since they last had CB that would actually be considered world class that they proclaim the likes of Stones to be something special and idiotic Chelsea who would pay 30m+ for this guy. English players are soo overrated.

Apart from that one guy on this forum who proclaimed that Stones had the potential to be one of the best ever CB's, no one was hyping him up that much.

I don't know what's worse.
The dumb EPL fans who overrate their players, or the ones who decide to generalize the opinion of an entire country based on those dumb fans.

That was a good play. Stones successfully kept the ball instead of kicking it away or giving it to Howard who would have kicked it into the stands too.

But what do you gain? A free kick within your own box when the opposition team is pressing you will probably just result in booting it away anyway.

However if he gets dispossessed then it will almost certainly lead to a goal. I like when I see Stones go past a few players because it takes them out of the game and starts attacks but in this case I just think it was arrogance and frankly that has been his problem all season. Rushing out to win balls he can't win. Diving into challenges when he should stay on his feet. He wasn't like that last season. Confidence can be a great thing but he needs a reality check. I still think he will go on to be world class but he's certainly not there yet or even close.

Overhyped by media like always with their new Rooney,Scholes,Gerrard and welsh Xavi crap. I wasn't even talking about this forum.

Those 3 were central to sides that have won the champions league. They were hardly poor players. Just because they never did it at the international level doesn't discount what they did at club level. Even Messi hasn't done much at international tournaments.

Welsh Xavi was Brendan Rodgers. The only reason the media brings that up is for jokes. Seriously, they're now having light banter by calling him the Welsh Pirlo cause he has a beard.

Ofc players from there are hyped, but that's not a reason to diss Stones so much. He really did show some great glimpses of his potential last year. If you're pissed at the English media, then well and good. But don't make dumb statements like "English are really pathetic." Rather it would help a discussion much more, if you were to elucidate more on how he's not good enough, instead of going on a rant on a country.

And I mean, every young player with potenial is ALWAYS compared to someone else. Messi was the next Maradona. Neymar was the next Pele. MAtS was the next Kahn. Busquets was the next Guardiola. Bartra was the next Puyol. Bojan/JDS etc. were the next whatever. Even now, Lee is the Korean Messi, Hali was the Croatian Messi etc.

Stones needs someone to tell him to focus. Puyol did that with Pique, and

I never said they were poor players. I'm saying english media are so desperate that they overhype any decent player with 5 minutes glory to be the new Rooney,Scholes. I'm not an idiot to claim these players were poor.

Not to say I'm overhyping but I'm absolutely buzzing at how good Stones could be. An English ball playing CB who's only 21? What's not to like?

Read today that there are bids up to 50m for this guy, almost choked on my coffee.
There is nothing more overrated in football, than the individuality of defenders. Certain defenders work for certain teams, yet wouldnt work for other teams.
Anything above 20-25m for a defender is a waste of money and hardly making a noticable difference. Look at ManCity, spending 40-50 on defenders per year, nothig improves at all. Its all about tactics and your teams workrates.

Sign a halfway good defender, from whom you think he'd do well for your team and who isnt too expensive. Someone of the quality of Alderweireld, Sakho, Mustafi or whatever, in case you get them for <25m, that sort of level, that's enough and they'll all do wonderfull if your philosophy enables a stable environment for proper defending. No need to go for Godin, Thiago Silva or whatever, thats not worth it.
