Jordi Alba

I know it does not have anything to do with Alba, but considering the discussion going on right now, if you want to have a good chuckle:

:lol: :lol:

On Alba: his speed is insane; I remember the goal in the Euro's finale where he was at the same pace, if not even faster as he did not slow down and that just makes for spectacular goals.
As for his defensive abilities and tracks back well and definitely one of the best defenders in the world. His time will come :party1:

Howard Webb should stick to being a cop, he's a shite referee...Although United are out so less chances of him gifting a result for anyone

:lol: That's hilarious

Although I wouldn't go as far as to say that all EPL fans are brainless donkeys without any football knowledge. That would be as unrealistic of a view as saying that Busquets is worse than Song. The stereotypical EPL football fan who doesn't follow in depth and has a close-minded view towards a single style of football is the kind that says stupid things. Those are the kind of people who get more information from playing Fifa rather than watching football and rarely have a clue of what they are talking about. However there are a fair share of premier league fans who are willing to appreciate other styles and can grasp knowledge of football tactics and actually know what they are talking about. It's just that the average clueless uninformed football fan chooses to follow the EPL because it's the most accessible league. That's why there are more EPL idiots than there are Serie A, La liga, or Bundesliga ones.

It isn't restricted to British people, seems that anyone who fancies EPL automatically gets a skewed perception of reality. So many of my fellow Swedish friends who are EPL fans are yet unable to grasp why Busquets is playing for Barcelona now that we got Song.
Without doubt.

All over the net you see these 'EPL fanboys' who have this jealously for Spain and can't see passed the Premiership.

I've debated my times with supporters of my club who say Sergio would be average in any other team, it astounds me how naive and clueless people can be about football. Busquets is probably the most underrated footballer in the world.

In regards to these type of fans, many still stand by that Gerrard, Lampard etc were the best midfielders in the world and are better than Xavi because they 'score more' :lol:

Can't disagree with any of that.

Although I honestly do believe that the majority of these type of fans have that view, well that's what I've experienced from numerous places especially online. You just need to look at Smile as a perfect example of this.

I think it merely surprises me that a good number of these pundits who'd you think watch plenty of football would not be so narrowminded or ignorant, especially in an age where the game is more & more global - yet, it largely does
They don't follow football outside of England.

The only games I believe they watch are during the big International tournaments and European games. Take Alan Shearer for example, he had no idea who Ben Afra was before Newcastle signed him. This was a player very highly regarded around Europe with massive potential. Some of the quotes made by Jamie Redknapp make me cringe and this guy is making lots of money as a football pundit. :(

Talking of these type of fans and I know it's off topic in regards to Alba, but I read a thread on Redcafe asking if there was an agenda against English clubs in Europe. To be fair many did say they didn't agree but a lot do buy into it. These fans are so one sided, they NEVER talk about the decisions that go for English teams. The myths that occur are crazy!

Chelsea vs Barcelona - Never hear about Ballack handball, Henry penalty first half. It's always about the 7001 pens denied;
Arsenal vs Barcelona - RVP second yellow, what about Messi goal wrongly chopped off in first leg? Two pens denied for handballs from Song and Arshavin? RVP should have been shown a straight red for stamp on Messi. Song had about 12 fouls in first leg;
Man United vs Real - Di Maria penalty, corner that United scored from wasn't a corner. Wrong decision to chop of Higuain's goal and the handball from Rafael.

... "oh no, Alba can't defend, oh no, him and Alves in a same team .. we're going to be crushed".
Let's hope something similar happens to Neymar, too :lol:

I think the point of those posters has been proven to be generally correct . Barca when they faced Osasuna had a worse record defensively than them. We failed to keep a clean sheet in a ridiculous number of matches in a row, the streak was halted when we played bottom side Deportivo and we needed a little bit of luck against an inexperienced and depleted Milan front-line at the Nou Camp to advance. We've conceded and looked vulnerable from counter-attacks all season long. Obviously all this cannot be pointed at the feet of the fullbacks or Alba but for much of this season, Barca hasn't looked this bad defensively since the end of the Rijkaard era.

This is not due to defensive (in)capabilities of any individual player, but due to the defensive performance of the back four as a unit (and the entire team, for that matter). I wouldn't say it's due to defensive tactics, because I'm pretty sure that our tactics are fine, but are just not being implemented the way they should be or in the intensity they should be some (most?) of the time. Alba and Alves are both good defenders, when they are defending. The fact that they simultaneously attack more often than they should doesn't mean that they're bad at defending. It just means that they should spend more time actually doing it.

Indeed. Press like we did against Milan and have either Alba or Alves hang back (or have them take turns going up), and we shouldn't be too vulnerable defensively. Or at least a lot less vulnerable than the defense has looked a lot of times this season, especially last month.

It's not reasonable to expect that we can press like that every game. And I know a lot of people in here were blaming Barca's lack of pressing as one of the reasons for the struggles of the CB's, but against Milan the defense looked vulnerable even when the Barca frontline and midfield did a great job of pressing. Mascherano is not a CB and simply makes too many individual mistakes, he lunges far too often and the better players like Ronaldo will take easy advantage of that. It was Masch who played Morata onside when the Madrid youngster was clear through on goal at the Bernabeau in La Liga. Masch made mistakes against Chelsea and Milan last year in the CL as well. These are individual errors that stem from a player who is playing out of position and defends like a midfielder. Pique is poor 1v1 and Alba makes positional errors too.

We can talk about pressing etc all day long but I've seen too many individual errors esp. from the Barca CB's to give them a pass.

I thought he was 3rd best today behind Messi+Villa. Showed no sense of tiredness from the Milan game and was not overly adventurous which suits him well. I just don't like when he tries to jump in attack leaving a big gap in defense. He is learning to pick his spots way better it must be said.

It's commendable how he is always willing to offer his speed during counter attacks, you can almost always see him sprinting in the lower part of your TV when there's the slight chance of counter attacking...

How much did we pay for him again? 14 million euros? Worth every damn penny and more. He has been one of our unsung heroes this season.
