Jordi Alba

He's too comfortable with his role. He offers too much risk defensively and gives it away when teams press high daily. Damn do I miss Abi bossing the left side!

I think what's clear is that Alba isn't even the caliber of defender Alves was early on in his career nevermind Abidal...He's got great speed and links up extremely well...But a converted winger is always going to come up short defensively, IMO...It's the theatrics and petulance that annoys me even more

He can improve in defense, but he's never going to be a defensive-minded player and will never be Abidal in that way. What he offers in his positive qualities are massive when the team is at its most balanced state. If we organize ourselves defensively and in our play, his flaws don't cause too much of a problem and we get the best out of him. That being said, I think it's just setting yourself up for disappointment if you want to invest all your focus on that side of his game.

His theatrics and attitude are a problem, but every team has those types of players and just like his defensive weaknesses, the best circumstance is trying to mask it as much as possible. Will he start acting up every now and then when we're struggling in a game vs Madrid or in a CL knockout stage? Sure, it's part of his nature. But if he does start getting frustrated, it's a sign to take him off as most often his play will suffer anyway while his blood is boiling.

Other than this, he's a passionate, energetic, and great player. He has his downsides but he's definitely the player I'd prefer to be holding that left flank for years to come.

Yeah, I definitely prefer passion to a lack of it...I just think his game has been marred more by his immaturity in the past 9 months than his play...I can recall the high we all must've felt those first 3-4 months after he signed...Reminded me of when we signed Alves but we haven't benefitted from that Alba in a while and Simeone man marking Jordi with Costa turned out to be a pretty genius approach - wind up merchant up against a player that loses his shit all too easily

I was hoping Tata would move Adriano to the left at half-time when he was bringing Alves in. Our left side just wasn't working tonight.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
Clearly out of form... And considering Adriano is only available for 5 games a season we need Jordi to step it up... He wasn't bad by any means, in fact, had some crucial interceptions, but still our left flank seems a little weak in defense...

I thought he looked good today, especially comparing to his recent performances... :eusa_think:

He played very good today, glad to see that he comes back to his old self

This!

As I said, he wasn't bad, but Costa and Atlético kept targeting him because he tends to leave our left flank exposed sometimes... And his passing wasn't as accurate as usual, that's why I think he's still out of shape, which he can't be blamed for as he had virtually no pre-season...

Thought he was terrible at times. Kids head ain't right he has no tactical awareness. Overlaps our forwards and gets trapped causing our defense to scramble. We can start calling him the headless chicken soon .
