Jordi Alba: Young, fast and local
23 year old Jordi Alba is a speedy left back with plenty of skill and the ability to make a difference by attacking from the behind
Jordi Alba Ramos, FC Barcelona’s first signing for the 2012/13 season, is a player that always makes himself noticed despite being a left back. He is the archetypal wing back, with a number of virtues. Aged just 23, he’s quick and skilful, and likes to support the forwards, making life hell for right backs with his lightning runs up the flank.
Back at Barça
Jordi Alba is no stranger to Barça. Born in l’Hospitalet de Llobregat, he spent seven years at La Masia between 1998 and 2005, where he also played in midfield. After that, he went to UE Cornellà before being snapped up by Valencia. He helped the reserve team win promotion to Division 2B before going on loan to Gimnàstic Tarragona.
Highly experienced
In the summer of 2009, he finally won a place in the Valencia first team under Unai Emery, playing 74 league games in three seasons, and becoming one of the key members of the squad, and even contributing five goals. His solid displays for Valencia have also won the recognition of Vicente del Bosque, and in the summer of 2012, Alba appeared in his first European Championship.
