Abidal was decent in offense and his passing was also good. If you find a full back like Abidal who is great in all areas then I'd be all for it but I can't see one that is feasible. It's wrong to assume that Abidal was defense-only and buying such a defender would be a mistake, our full backs have to be able to link up because they're very involved in the passing and the attacking play of the team.

just to add, if our fullbacks don't attack,

1. Opposition wingers will not be bothered to fall back. Exposing us to easy counter attacks more often

2. when Fullback is attacking, it keeps the opposition fullback busy with one of our full back which frees our right forward.
who (right forward) would drag e.g a cd to create space for messi and company, or for himself.

Have you watched Barcelona recently?

1. Alves and Alba are so mindlessly pushing forward that opposition wingers don't bother to fall back because such disregard for defense exposes us to easy counter attacks.

2. Our fullback + winger combo was always outnumbered due to massive parked buses and severe lack of movement.

The term defensive fullback shouldn't be taken so literally, we are not talking about a player who'll just wait in our box and do nothing but deal with opposition attacks...

According to La Repubblica, Cuardado's agent met with Bayern representatives on friday.

The deal could be announced soon, with La Repubblica reporting that Bayern porposed a 4M euros NET salary per year, and that both parties are discussing for a fee around 40M euros.
