Come on now...First off, he never became some star player after being deemed surplus at Barca...Secondly, he was given ample opportunities with the first team at Barca to show his quality - just never materialized...Plus, how long after he was dumped did he even show glimpses of being a worthwhile investment?...Years

One moment of glory here & there doesn't equate to squandered talent, IMHO...Following that line of logic, you could somehow make the same argument about someone like Motta.
He had his chances, it can't be deemed a poor move by the club, IMHO...Can't compare to the way Negredo, Mata, Parejo, Granero etc. have been handled by RM

I know... just a small go from my side to your claim that we trump over their youth system
but actually it's just the fact that we had a drought in winning silverware we could dare with youngsters... had we been winning stuff left and right like RM did may be we would not have played 8 youth players in CL final like we did last year!! It's only because of some of the very talented youth coming through lately that we are witnessing some very good things happening.
Let's see man, suppose the present youngsters cement their places in the first team for few years down the line we may not be having such outflow of huge talents from our La Masia by that time... look no furthur than Man Utd to have a clear picture!!

Well Estel, I think it has more to do with differing philosophies by the clubs, tbh...There's an investment in youth and their development as well as integration into the first team at Barca that RM does not have...And, frankly, hasn't had for several years now (Going on more than a decade now).
President's like Perez roll in and go for the 'quick fix' and buy talent...You're never going to get outta CR what you could from a Raul or Iker who bleed for the club, IMHO.

I still want Mata... because as much as Pedro is awesome he's a better winger when playing on right. He crosses very very well with his right foot. Now we can say Mata is a left footed Pedro or some thing like that. I'd definitely like to have 2 pedros in thet eam
