Spain’s Anti-Corruption Public Prosecutor filed a criminal complaint in a court in Valencia on Monday against Real Zaragoza FC and Levante FC for match fixing at the end of the 2010–2011 season in the country’s BBVA First Division league.
In the criminal filing, a copy of which was obtained by The Spain Report, 42 people or organisations were named as defendants: Real Zaragoza FC, Real Zaragoza’s chairman, managing director, one board member, sporting director and coach, and the 18 players from each team.
If indicted by the investigating judge, the 42 defendants could face up to four years in jail, a six year ban and a fine of €2.9 million in Spain’s first-ever match fixing criminal case.
