Currently we're not winning trophies and not playing pretty football at that so why not try out Paco. He probably wouldn't win us a treble but we'd play classy footy and not this boredom we're being fed with now.

However, I still have faith left for Lucho. I'm curious to see how he fares with Atleti and Sociedad coming up.

You know sometimes i think it is just not possible with some of these Players anymore and we would end up with the same.

If he can make Rayo play like they do then he would work magic with a setup like this:

Neymar Suarez Messi
Iniesta Rakitic/Rafinha
Mascherano

Paco has not proven his worth at any top club and his Rayo team is extremely naive tactically wise. Not really the sort of "experiment" that we need to take in case the club fires Lucho which would only happen due to lack of success on the field.

What we need is something that RM realized back in 2010 when they hired Mourinho. It was not pretty but it was necessary back then for them to return to the top. Now Ancelotti is benefitting from that. Of course he himself had a huge responsibility for their success but the fundament was built under Mourinho.

No, I am not advocating for Mourinho I am just saying that if we are to replace Lucho we need a proven winner and a top manager. Someone that can be trusted at the highest level, who knows the pressures of a top club, who got the experience and who is not easily intimidated by the media.

Paco would just be another experiment. We don't need that. As much as I respect and admire the guy and his Rayo team. At Rayo nobody expects anything from him other than staying in the league. He can afford to take risks and to play fancy football.

Oh, RM will win unless Lucho and our team get their shit together. Our main rival is in a crazy form of late (22 consecutive wins!) and playing some amazing football at the same time. Unfortunately.

Kickoff for Athletic-Atletico. Ought to be a fantastic match at San Mames.

3 minutes in and the football is very end-to-end.

1-0 RICO!!!! Atmosphere is buzzing

Atleti clearly missing two of their most key players: Koke and Mandzukic

I can't believe people don't think Atletico hasn't declined.

Hard not to decline when you just had the best season in your history (arguably). Most people were aware of the fact that it would be very difficult to repeat again. Simeone or not.

Especially as they lost their best attacker, the league's best goalkeeper (arguably only second to Neuer) and a fundamental part of their defense (Luis Filipe) and Villa (don't underestimate his importance).

The likes of Moya, Cerci (what a failure he has been) Jiménez (another failure), Siqueira and Ansaldi are obviously not going to make up for those huge gaps.

Regardless of Griezmann and Mandžukić.

They have a better squad depth now but their starting 11 is not as strong anymore (IMO). Anyway it is too soon to conclude anything about their season other than them likely not repeating the huge success from last season. I don't even believe that they could top their last season had Courtois, Filipe, Costa and Villa all stayed.

------

A very exciting game right now. As expected when those two clubs meet. A lot of shared history.

Of course they have. You can't keep up this kind of intensity and exceed the obvious limitations of the squad forever. Plus, I don't think they had a very good transfer window. They couldn't properly replace the players who left, and didn't add a lot of depth. Griezmann was supposed to be the star signing and now he struggles to get into the starting 11. Still a world class team but not one of the very best anymore imo.

1-1 by Griezmann and a penalty for Atletico, really not a proper penalty call.

2-1 by Raul Garcia. Game turned around totally within the span of 7 minutes.

Griezmann isn't really at fault for that. Whenever he plays, his chemistry with Arda and Koke is orgasmic and he has been producing with regularity. He makes their play better whenever he's in the reserved SS role next to Mandzu. I'll never understand Simeone's obsession with Raul Garcia, the guy has 0 abilities on the ball and creates an attacking obstacle for them.
