We'd probably rip City's defense a new one. This City is like City that got shat on by Monaco. They are terrible. People expect them to come back but so far they are just shite.

They should have a league phase champion in this format, like conference champions in America sports.

Because some fans and coaches are putting way too much focus on winning the league phase in December, it means little to nothing.

We don't know how they'll look in 3 months especially if they bring some players in January.

Not the point though, for finishing 2nd you would expect to play against Celtic or Dinamo Zagreb not City or PSG.

And we all know Madrid will step up too when important games will start. They just don't care about group stage.

Yep, we just need to get through.
Yes but if you are outside of top 8 you have to play 2 games more. Top 8 teams will have advantage in round of 16 because they will be more rested. On top of that, nobody guarantees you an easy opponent in those play offs. For example I heard Madrid could get Atalanta or Juventus if things stay like this on the table. Both would be a hard task and chances of getting eliminated are not non existent.

Yea but like Messi said above, I'd rather he 4-6 points clear in the league and have to play two extra games in January, than the other way around.

CL group stage is impossible to plan for when it comes to opponents. You can however increase your odds by finishing top, even if it could also mean you face City early, but like I said impossible to plan.

Also a big financial boost. Finishing 1st is 10m or so, top 8 I think was around 2-3m. Also get a couple mil per win. All teams will want to win as many games as possible, if you have chance of finishing 1st you don't throw away last games just because you are top 8 and be content with that.

If you are tied in the league phase of the CL and your domestic league and have to prep for 1 game, every manager not named flick is prioritizing the domestic league.

+3 points in a league is better than winning the league phase, compared to finishing top 8.
