We should always compete that is a given. But pretty sure a lot(close to whole football world likely) didn’t like our chances of winning it before it started.
Most of the forum are Xavi haters, so they tried to give flick an easy out if he didn't win.

Flick himself and the club said the objective is to win the league, as was the case for the manager before him.

The standard was to play good football and accept losing? Said no one ever.

I'm pretty sure we did a poll on this too, I wonder what it said.

I mentioned that Madrid hasn't repeated a title in over 15 years.
Fair play to you then. But a hopeful attitude is not the same as a realistic one. I generally opt to be optimistic as well.

No one expected our team to play this well.

Be honest, say we were in 5th position, how many posts of yours would be prefaced with “well, this was to be expected really…”

Of course, by expectations I mean expectations for a good season. More in the line of objective.

True, in terms of entertainment, we are playing above what I expected. Basically, the only downside of Flick so far is the number of lost points vs smaller Spanish sides, which is a tad higher than preferable.

Ain't nobody talking about playing well. We are talking about winning.

Playing well and losing is the new standard for the club now according to a few here.

Not quite. 2nd in CL and 1st in La Liga shows we are sitting great in terms of results also.

The issue in La Liga is the margin is slim and we could have built a better margin with fewer fuck-ups.

Yea.

But not what I was getting to at all.
A fair few here have said losing and playing well is acceptable to them.

Actually winning something, not winning games.

A very small minority thinks like that. Most would be disappointed to not exploit Madrid's poor results in the league and win it.

Of course admitting it is a different story.

This is after fact lol. You just proved my initial claim. That bar has been raised during season.

Also jamrock focusing on semantics as feel will lose argument otherwise. Change what I said to “to do this well” then.

No it's been like that for 2-3 years. We made 85 pts last season in what was called a bad league season here. Surely 88-90 pts should be expected under a new manager and a more motivated squad. Hell, even last season we could have hit 91 if we didn't lose twice vs Girona like absolute idiots.

Note that I don't compare with Xavi's 22-23 season when we walked the league, but with his worst season when he was a mental mess.

Ok so if we hit point milestone but real wins league it was success?

No, but it is expected for me to lose vs a great Madrid because they won 2 CLs in the last 3 seasons. They have a better team on paper.

Not winning the league because we lost many points vs smaller teams is less acceptable and points fingers at the manager.

Obviously losing the title to Atletico is unacceptable also, goes without saying.
