Lionel Messi - v7

This playing with 10 men narrative has to stop, it's only relevant when Barca are playing a truly top team where literally everybody needs to hold their shape and contribute at both ends of the pitch. Barcelona had 73% possession yesterday. But Messi didn't hare around the pitch kickig fuck out of Valencia players.

I thought everyone agreed since 2013 that using "possession rate" is not a good marker for overall performance

A certain someone will disagree with you there :xavi:

Possession for the sake of dominating the attacking course of play is different from possession from sideways and backpasses. The first resulted in a consensus top 3 club side of all time (even oppo fans acknowledge this) while the latter results in cheap knock offs.

Xavi himself has been both. He was the most incisive passer I've ever seen from the central midfield between 08 and 12.

Became a sidepass maestro by 2014-15.

Its not about Xavi the player, its about Xavi the person.

He needs to leave. Thanks for the memories but it's time to go. Greatest player in the clubs history but currently a burden both on and off the pitch.
He should go to Psg where he can play Harlem globetrotters with Neymar.

If we're talking total football in the modern sense than Bayern and Real Madrid fit the bill. They can play counter attack, possession, score goals from open play, set pieces. Fast, physical and can defend deep when necessary. Our fucking pussies are one trick ponies.
If you bring Xavi that will become even worse. There is nothing more painful than watching your team have 80% meaningless possession and lose 2-0.

Maybe the shocking news wont be so bad then. I mean...would be strange releasing it right around Christmas.

As I say, it's one way to look at it. The other is that after the New Year he can freely negotiate with another team and you can believe speculation will otherwise build

The stage is set with Leo who rarely is interviewed and Jordi who does not really interview footballers but world leaders. If we're to believe what Laporta has said a couple of times now, Leo will hear out the elected President (late January) before deciding but also says he hopes it won't be too late which suggests there is a chance a decision will have already been taken

Lionel Messi to La Sexta's Jordi ?vole: "I had a very bad time, because of the end of the season and because of what happened in the summer, I dragged it with me at the beginning, but now I feel good, eager and excited." [via rac1]

Messi: "I know the club is going through a difficult time, at a team and club level, but I'm looking forward to it."

My GOAT.
