Man City can certainly afford him. He won't be getting anywhere close to what he is with us.
As for Laporta, I think it's going to end in disaster. It's a totally different time when he was in charge. People seem to forget that his first season with us wasn't great at all. We finished with 72 points despite having a better squad than we have now. He was very fortunate players like Iniesta and Valdes came through the La Masia that year. In his next season in charge, he got lucky with Messi coming through.
His spending was quite big back then. He spent 452m euros and only brought back 142m euros. That might not seem like that much in 7 years, but it was back then. He also did one of the worst transfers in our history..... Eto'o + 65m euros for Ibra. Yet again, he was very fortunate to have players like Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Valdes, Pique (I know he was at Man Utd earlier on) and Messi were already at the club before he took charge. He had a very good and fortunate youth system to build off. He really doesn't have that now. I know we have Fati, but we don't have the quality of youth we had back then.
The point I'm making is..... I don't think he can do it again. He doesn't have any money. The club is in much worse debt. Our squad is in a big mess and needs a major rebuild, a rebuild that needs a lot of money to fix it..... money we won't have for a while. He's most likely only going to get loan and free signings this season and most likely next season. Nowadays, if you want quality players, you have to pay over the odds. It's very rare to find a very good and world-class player on a small fee. As I said, it's a very different time.... and he's been away for over 10 years. He had a lot of luck compared to others.
