That's very possible. The problem is.... we're in massive debt and he would have to take about a 70% salary reduction. We also have to give him another signing-on fee and another 33m from his loyalty bonus. They would also need to promise him big signings, which we can't due to having no money in the summer. The only signings we'll make will be Depay, Garcia and Gini. All decent players, but nowhere near good enough to win an actual Champions League.

The only way that Messi stays is if he can't be bothered to move and that he doesn't care about the money. He has a tough choice because we're going to be terrible next season and the season after that. If he wants to compete on the highest level and win at least one Champions League, he should think about moving.

I'm on the same boat. I would say Messi would even take a paycut just so his family is happy. He also has such a big comfort zone here that I am not sure if he wants to be bothered adapting to a new club, new style, new environment, etc. In terms of family staying happy, the next best destination is PSG due to the short distance from Paris to Barcelona. His family could still stay there and he can visit them when he has time off.

He's receiving that money for what he's done for the club in his career and that he stayed at a sinking ship in the end of his goat years, not because of what he can do as a 34 yo football player. Also , I have no problem with Messi receiving 250 mil NET in the past 5 years or whatever considering all that he's done for the club.



I'm also pretty sure without him we would've been somewhere around 8-9th position , not still fighting for the title.

if he walks until the end of the season he would still bang at least 10 goals in La Liga making it 25 and would still be a bigger effort than Griezmann + Dembele + Braithwaite + Coutinho.



Also seeing what Dembele + Griezmann + Coutinho earn I legit have no problem seeing Messi earn the money he does.



Don't know what higher standards mean to you but if you expect a 34yo Messi in a dissfunctional pathetic team to somehow score 2 -3 goals every La Liga game and + 10 in the CL you'll set yourself for dissapointment every time.
