I'm really not interested into getting into another 2-3 hour discussion regading Messi and the Ballon d'Or. I said I see reasons for why Van Dijk could win it and would be a good winner and that's it. Messi could win it as well, and certainly would be worthy as well.

It's pure rubbish to say Van Dijk doesn't have a case to win it.

Van Dijk also choked on a 8 point lead in the PL last season. How about letting a "lowly choker" like Messi get 2 goals past him in the first leg? Hell, how about losing the Nations league to Portugal? Man, what a loser this guy.

Point is, if you want to form a narrative against someone like some do it for Messi then you can easily do it against VVD too. You could also point towards how Liverpool defence has been straight up mediocre this season and how their forward line keep saving them from defeats and draws. Let's be serious, VVD isn't even the best player in Liverpool, that would be Mane over the whole year.

Messi was 3 times better than CR7 over the course of last season and individually superior to VVD. Liverpool last season were a collective force (Mane, VVD, Allison being standouts) like Bayern in 2013. It's like awarding the 2013 Ballon d'or to Ribery when Robben and Neuer were so integral also.

I've got no problem with them awarding VVD the Ballon d'Or because he won the CL and Messi didn't. But he was not the better performer in the CL simply by the virtue of reaching and winning the final.

Messi's La Liga campaign also overshadows VVD's PL campaign. I know LL is worth less than CL but it's not negligible.

Messi is the deserving winner.


EDIT: Also wanted to say Messi putting in better performances for Argentina at 32 than NeyRETIRED who probably played his last good game for Brazil at 27. Despite having superior talent around him.

talk about 2013,lol,ronaldo had no case being the winner in the first place,it was messi vs ribery,yet he cried,said he would not go to award ceremony then had to play a playoff game against almighty sweden. And fifa EXTENDED their voting time,waited for him win over sweden so they could give him the award lol. Pathetic
