He should have been let go in the summer. At least that is what some ''specialists'' like serghei said. Were we would have been without Messi contribution this year?I 'll have a go:battling with the likes of Sevilla and Sociedad for that fourth place trophy.

Serghei said lots of positive things about Messi in the last weeks :)

I don't think he's past it in CL.

CL (especially in prior years) is impossible to win by a player on their own.

What he needs is 2-3 world class players around him to mask some of his flaws and highlight his many strengths.

Fati Haaland Messi would be near unstoppable in CL IMO. Haaland won't find a better creative genius and Messi won't find a better predator.

I think he'd do great in CL, but he needs more than just a good team, he needs a team good enough to also win it without him. Meaning he is not the difference-maker in CL anymore, just a regular top player with quite a few weaknesses at this age.

So, he's more past, not in comparison with normal good players, but in comparison with his prime level.

Unfortunately, in CL, speed, and intensity which are often correlated with 30+ years of age, are essential. As good as Messi is talent-wise, he can't beat multiple players in dribbling runs anymore. His magical dribbling became more Iniesta-like, still special, but more static and less powerful and dynamic.

And, as much as we like Messi's freekicks, passes, vision, etc., the main Messi-skill, the most special part of him was always his dribbling at full speed for me. Taking on 3-4-5 players at once and dropping them like flies, and not only players from Granada, Bilbao etc, but even the best defenders in the world. He lost that to a big degree over time, and it's not a criticism as it's normal with age.

To translate what Serghei Said.

Get the man in a good team unlike the garbage squads we had in the past 3-4 years and he will win you anything.

but he didn't say that.

just some bullshit about messi not being a "difference-maker in CL anymore, just a regular top player ".

then you look at his numbers, what he does on the pitch and you realize he never was "a regular top player".

People only think the goal scorer as the difference maker but this is unfair to every other position.
A keeper can be a difference maker. Mats, has not been that in the cl, but for example he was in the last copa games.
Messi, as always, is held to a different standard than anyone else. If he doesn't produce stunning performances each game, he is labeled as past it and overpaid. Even if his performance level is above 80% of other players.
An assist, creation and defense distabilization machine like Messi is still, at 34, a difference maker. He is just not the typical poacher getting all the headlines for a tap in in an important game.
He needs to create and score the goal, to get the same recognition as others. And that responsibility and burden has only done bad for barca and him.

Its now seven years since it happened - the 4-3 in bernaleo with an amazing Messi hattrick. Wow what a match it was, Di maria was sensational. We needed to win this match to have hope for the la liga title and we did it. Enjoy it guys!

Good thing Messi walked away from the centre there otherwise Jordi would've tried to look for him.

Of course he did. When he plays like this. For me ,i never doubted his ability.Ithink he was really in a bad place at the beginning of the season and hence his below par performaces.Still the best in our team back then too. It's ok to not like Messi. But to call him washed up or to hate him as a Barca fan is outrageous. This man deserves our respect no matter what he would have done this season or if he will leave next season. He's earn it,ten times.

He may not have the speed and accelaration anymore, but he makes up with the vision.Put a much better inseated of Dembouz or Griezzman or whatever lump we play these days in attack, and he'll have 50 assists per season. Also,he's still our best finisher in squad by a long margin. He has enough attributes to push a very good team to win CL.But Barcelona haven't been a very good team in the last 4-5 years. If you put him in City setup, instead of de Bruyne for example, who is a very good player himself too,he'll have twice the numbers the belgian has.And De Bruyne is much younger. This is who Messi is.

Not quite. We have a good team. But he needs to be part of a great team to win CL. We're talking about top 3-4. Bayern, City, PSG. Maybe Liverpool if they get their shit together.

Don’t agree. Now we’ve realised you can’t play Pique-Lenglet in CL, this team can give anyone a good game. That’s without Fati in the team and no proper 9. A couple of good signings and we can compete imo, we battered PSG away when we sorted formation out and they were in final last year. Not saying we’d be favourites against those teams you listed but team doesn’t need as many changes as you’re making out.
