Lionel Messi - v7

The payscale is determined by the president of the club, based on consultations with the sporting and finance departments. Some are reckless, some are pragmatic. Barto gambled all in on Messi until 2021. He lost.

Frankly I don't care about the personal wealth Messi's accumulated. He could be a billionaire, I don't know, but sure he has earned that money on the pitch with his football skills. Same way Michael Jordan did.

Jordan's Bull's were not in financial turmoil even as they paid his great salary, though. that's an important difference.

and if we care about the health of the sport, we should totally be concerned about how much these players earn. if there is no check on salary and transfer inflation we end up precisely with our current problems: paying 300+ MILLION euros for dembele, coutinho, griezmann, and giving them fat, unreasonable salaries

there are important limits that must be observed. otherwise some decent footballer will end up costing 200m before we know it. if there is ONE positive thing about the pandemic it is that clubs have had to think twice before throwing money so carelessly

frankly i dont think any player anywhere, not even mbappe, should get more than 15m a year from their respective clubs. the fact that Griezmann is making more than that already is a solid indicator that the payscale is broken. especially at this time when all clubs, even the big ones, are strapped for cash.

besides: dont forget that athletes like messi probably earn as much, or much more, from advertising deals with adidas/nike/whatever. its not like theyre poor.

ok boomer

I'm sorry, but this has already happened. The petro-dollars from Qatar and Dubai have rendered us non-competitive on the transfer market, unless we are dead sure to take another bank loan of 400m to buy our no.1 transfer priorities.

The presence of Messi in our squad is also the single factor any of the big names would consider negotiating with FC Barcelona.

Who should get the money if the players do not?
Barcelona will never be able to pay Messi what they morally owe to him (well Messi owe the club a lot too of course)

[Cat Radio] Lionel Messi is open for an long-term contract proposed by Laporta which includes three stages: 2 more years at Barcelona, Barca's brand ambassador in US and extended career at United States and then returning to Barcelona's sporting Department.

I guess we have to give up Haaland/Mbappe dreams to instead extend almost 34 years old Messi.

IF Messi leaves, it will be tough to convince a player to come here to replace him.
Way too much pressure, even for the Haland & Mpabbe of the world

This sounds like a Man City type offer. I wonder if he has put the City offer on the table for Barcelona to counter.

bad move for Leo if he goes to PSG, regardless the fact they lost, I don't think this psg side suit him well
