Lionel Messi - v7

Didn?t watch today, was busy and assumed we?d win (big lol). I see Messi scored, did he score an own goal also? Seems like it from reactions

He played well first half. Played terrible in the second, also a few of his give awaysa led to counters and ended up giving the ball away for one of their goals. By no means was he the reason we lost, that was squarely on koeman.

Of course we may lose some commercial value, but how much have Madrid lost with Ronaldo going? It is not as if Messi would leave at his peak, he is soon to be 34 and there is going to be a point of diminishing return between what he brings and what is wages are. If already we cannot maintain his current contract, it means that the commercial benefits are already outweighed.

Historically Madrid had been a bigger brand than we were, even though we are on par since the last decade or so. If we lose Messi, no doubt we will take a big hit financially, it will be down to how Laporta and Reverter etc. can work their magic to reduce the impact as much as possible and continue to innovate and grow our brand.

From a commercial perspective we do need a star to replace him. As to who I don’t know.

Won't be surprised if he leaves.

We're in big trouble if he leaves though because we got no money to replace him and the team will likely be much worse next season if he's gone.

Team will be completely average and viewership will drop like a rock. Tough times ahead for FC Barcelona.

Commercial impact of Messi is over stated imo. We still have a large fanbase Messi or no Messi. The biggest worry about anything right now is the effect of covid on the long term fincnials of football.

The dependence on Messi is a by-product of poor investment and coaching IMO.

Yes but as long as he is here, no matter who is the manager and what players we get I have no doubt the passing lanes will still go through Messi, the play (if not the team) will still be built around him, and players will either be instructed or naturally pass the ball to him and rely on him. Quite natural since he is our best and most capable player offensively.

The best solution for Barca would be Messi continuing for one more season IMO, enough for the club to secure some financial stability until 2022 and be able to replace him with a proper World Class player.

The likes of Pique, Roberto need to go though and Busquets and Alba need to be left to rotation duties.

He absolutely has to leave this summer, he's wasting his little time remaining with these useless cunts, it's been said many times already I know.

I didn't like how he went about trying to leave last summer but ffs this season really does show this version of Barca is beyond saving; prime Messi would have problems carrying players like Lenglet, MaTS and Pique. Our team are literally turning into the spanish Arsenal, we are a comedy show

HUGE clear out needed, Laporta needs to get his shit together and make some moves.

Getting rid of a 100m p.a salary will enable us to make signings fairly easily. Auour kanoute even halaand may be possible.

Not holding my breath for xavi.

Think we can get the above and still keep Messi. I didn't crunch the numbers but guessing we should raise enough by freeing Grizzi, Couti, Pjanic, Lenglet, Alba, Pique, Bob and Umtiti right?

then we get Haaland either pronto or 2022 and we try to loan Iheanacho or Moukoko in the meantime. Also a top scouting program could discover treasures on the cheap. I mean, why do clubs always let Dortmund pillage all the cheap talent.

Add a savvy attacking coach to bind it all together and we're in business.

I'd prefer him to stay and finish his career here but was responding to a comment about us being midtable/unable to buy players if he were to leave.

He has to leave.. Absolutely..
1 Because if he stays we have to start from scratch in a year or 2 year time.
2 if we wanna catch up to the modern game (intensity) there is no room for walkers.. Even Messi.

Laporta is just a whipped pussy. Look for things to get even worse next season.
