Lionel Messi - v7

Changing goalposts though. Now it’s about not being a good leader. Never said he was a good leader. Probably knows a thing or two about what sort of players would bring more success than what has been bought. He’s not a full time scout though so of course he wouldn’t know which talents to snap up etc. I’m just saying wanting Neymar back after being given Dembele, Coutinho and Griezmann to work with is understandable in a football sense.

Plenty of times I’ve debunked these things.. Also Fati are you actually a meme getting involved the one time there’s a bit of shitting on Messi hahaha

It's the same argument really, goes hand in hand. Not being a leader means he's not likely to see the problems clearly and understand the needs of the team, and much more likely to take things personally.

If he stays this summer is it because he knows team has chance of CL?

Not quite so sure on the assumption that Messi thinks Barca in 19/20 season were not good enough to win CL etc either.

So many ifs and buts though. That’s why unless there’s strong evidence id just choose to back our players. Especially Messi of all. Not saying praise the shit things about him but you’re basing things mostly on a whim, just seems odd to me but that’s fine

If he stays now I think it’s because of lots of things but I don’t think one of those reasons is he thinks he can win ucl here. I don’t think ucl is his priority anymore tbh. Not quite sure where I’ve assumed what you say there

What was he unhappy about a year ago in terms of squad that has been resolved a year on if stays?

Speculation time (just like everyone else does) was probably unhappy Suarez (clubs only proven 9) was given to a rival and not adequately replaced. Vidal and Rakitic going (both regular players who weren’t adequately replaced).

What’s changed? Emergence of a few new young players. Griezmann improving. Finances tanking to the point we couldn’t sign anyone anyway. Therefore less frustrating if quality isn’t brought in if it’s not possible. New club hierarchy who he believes in after same head of club brought great success to the team.

Lots of things basically.

Messi believed that Suarez, Vidal and Rakitic in squad were of good enough standard? That is worse than I would have guessed.

None of that is logical or reasons to stay if argument is Messi wanted to leave due to state of squad in my opinion.

Why would 'finances tanking to point cant sign anyone' be a positive to stay? That is some claim.

If he stays now it means he wasn't actually serious about leaving last year, kinda wanted something new but not really that bothered.

Shiuldn't have talked it up so much imo.

Things broke with Messi when Bartomeu promised him that he'll bring Neymar back and he not only failed, but then sacked his favorite manager post Pep, Valverde, and then turned against his friends.

True to an extent but Barto didn't want to sack EV. Board members late said it was a huge mistake.

The main reason EV was sacked was lack of fan support and Abidal wanted him out.

No it doesnt.

He clearly wanted to leave.

Players can change their mind.

Probably believed Suarez was good enough standard. Proved this year he still has something to his game even if he didn’t suit us anymore.

No one knows what he thought of these players. They weren’t finished players but regardless it’s more they weren’t replaced. Bunch of players who probably have enough to challenge for league leaves and aren’t replaced. Wouldn’t have 0 effect on someone

The argument that Messi thought squad was good enough and those players like Vidal, Rakitic and Suarez should stay is more damning for Messi than thinking he asked to leave due to Suarez being punted for me.

Can forget the 'Messi knows what is best for team' argument with that one.

Part of the argument for Messi being unhappy has always been he and amigos rated themselves too highly and everyone else to blame so in many ways we agree.

Not sure if he rated the other two just know he saw they weren’t really replaced with anyone of decent quality. Likely a mix of multiple things. Just seems like it’s being made out it’s only for negative reasons. Doubt that’s the case.
