Stunning

(🌕) Messi?s contract being expired tonight doesn?t worry Joan Laporta?s board a lot - both, the club & player have ALREADY agreed to a renewal & negotiations are well advanced. It is taking time due to the complexity [& details] of the contract. @CatalunyaRadio #Transfers 🇦🇷✍️

That is old news. The wage cap/financial issue still need to be solved.

Either, we have no idea how to solved it or let the contract run out for some financial loophole mojo is yet to be seen.

It could be that they wait for the contract to expire and re-sign him as a free agent? Another case of financial workaround so as to lighten the burden on the accounting books?

Not sure how that would make any difference on the books for next season.

Most likely they are just struggling to make room now as no one wants to leave.

Possibly but this bit is also interesting.

“If Barcelona want to bring in a player who costs them €25million per season in salary, they must earn, either by transfer or by a salary reduction, €100 million.”

He will be a "bring in player" tomorrow. If Tebas was not talking non sense, we need to raise money 4 times of his new contract wage in order to register him.

That is not correct.

The 25% is what Barca can currently spend on transfer fees based on player sales.

They dont need to raise 400m to sign Messi.

They've been saying the same thing for the past 4 weeks.

What the hell is so complicated about signing a new contract? You either sign it or you don't.... especially if he's supposedly agreed to the terms.

I do hope we're not going to give him that bullshit contract of paying him for the next 10 years. He's already supposedly going to get 60m a year for the next 2 years, which is way too much for a 34-year-old.

why would 60M a year for 2 seasons be too much for Messi at 34-year-old? if he is by far and away our best player.

12M a year for Dembele, 16M a year for FDJ or 20M a year for Griezmann offered better return because they were in their 20s when they got those contracts?

Won't be a 10-year "contract". Most likely his two year contract will be paid out over 5 years.

Very simple math: 2 years x 60m (gross) = 120m/5 years = 24m

So he'd cost the club 24m next season instead of 130m or whatever he's getting now.

I insist: Messi's renewal is done. It is not a question of will. Messi said yes to the offer a long time ago. Now it is a question of lawyers. It is true that Bar?a would like to close it before midnight today, but fair play and taxation must be tied well.

Because 60m a year in our current situation is far too much, regardless of who it is.

Good deal for Messi still. Get paid for 2 years in MSL while still also being paid by Barcelona.

Laporta is being held by the balls basically. Doesn't want to be the President who lost club legend Messi.

depends on how much revenue Messi generates for Barcelona. The Messi brand is a money machine fantastically lucrative as the brand Messi-Barcelona.

I'm sure he generates staggering figures, especially during the covid pandemic.

There is never a guarantee of a cl man. Even in Pep's day and MSN we lost out as often as we won. What would happen for sure though is Messi would kill in in the prem. I have no doubt of this. We just have to look at the huge delta between messi and every other player around him, even today. If guys like Grealish and sterling are considered special talents, why should we be nervous abt messi doing well? Maybe not 40 goals but certainly in the high 20s. I'd bet my house on it. And the 180 by the english media from skepticism to worship will be glorious to see. That is why me(and the other Messi out posters) want to see him move so badly.

Besides goals he would create a massive amount and besides creating he would wow fans with his dribbles and passes and ability to get out of tight situations

It was before COVID. I doubt Messi has brought in anywhere close to the amount of money in the past 18 months. We've lost a lot from no stadium tours, shirt sales, no tours around the city, no matchday tickets.

With COVID cases supposedly rising all over Europe, I don't see our situation improving all that much in that department.
