Lionel Messi - v7

When you face a tragedy you want reassurance or stability or guidance from your leader. The amount of fans that look up to Messi, the youngsters being bullied by their friends. He is the team?s captain for god sake. He has a responsibility and if he isn?t up to it then he should lose the arm band.

Team captain just because the suits thought it was a good idea. Do you want him to come out and say the same cringy stuff he muttered after Rome and Liverpool? He had an interview before the CL started. He showed us against Napoli that he wasn't to win. After 4-1 at HT it was clear the game was lost, what more could be said?

The people that berate him for not being captain material come out and ask for Messi to be a leader and say something. Like it would mean anything. Funny stuff

@serghei: you writing idiotic stuff lately. Messi at CF, at his age, when he really never played there his whole life?

Than take his armband and be done with. Give it to some guy who has a voice in the locker-room.

Man, from Puyol, to Xavi, to Iniesta, to Messi, as far as captaincy is concerned. From 10/10, to 9/10, to 7/10, to 4/10. Who's next? Alba?. My god this team is a mess.

You have to learn that Messi isnt perfect. He run 3km in the first half, thats not enough for a CL top match so he also deserves criticism like every other player on the pitch.

As I said before, if he said something, it would be similar to what he said after the osasuna game and probably similar to what pique said. The whole club is a mess, starting from the top. Big decisions need to be made.

De Jong seems like the only leader but I think that the other players wouldnt respect him as he is new. By the way Messi would be furious if you take his armband away.

Good, if he's furious he can leave. 2 birds with one stone. You get a better captain, and clear 50-100m per year in wages to properly rebuild this team. We're past the point where what Messi thinks or feels is important. We've seen what the Amigos have done with this club.

Team captain doesn't mean anything, they just call heads or tales at the start of the game and lift a trophy at the end of the season if they are lucky enough to win something.

Messi is absolutely not the problem, the other players are. The 4 goals we conceded in the first half were awful from a defensive point of view, far too easy for Bayern, we got back in it at 4 - 2 but then they scored a 5th 5 minutes later with more horrendous defending. What the hell was Messi supposed to do to stop that? The defence is shit, so is the midfield but our attack is still one of the best in Europe mostly because of Messi.

Messi just can't get around the pitch anymore so we have to build the team accordingly and we haven't done that. If we had a solid defence and a dynamic midfield with a pacy forward line then there would be no problem with Messi walking around because his offensive output is so high.

I respect how Madrid easily got rid of Ronaldo and continued to do business as usual. We did the same with Ronaldinho; the club is always bigger than the players. That being said, Messi can stay for a year or two and can add great value still but he needs to be stripped of certain authorities and listen to his manager. Against Bayern after few goals he decided to take things to his own hand and went back to the midfield. I am not sure if he was instructed to do so but my instinct tell me that it was his disobedience. If it is difficult to control Messi then the hard call must be taken

And how are you going to replace 40 goals and 25 assists? The only player who can give us that is Neymar and he would cost €200m and a similar salary. Messi is the last player that should leave.
