If he wants to leave, he should at least bring the club some money from his transfer, not leave on a free.

He'll be leaving like 80-100m off our wages. That's good enough. Besides no President can afford the optics of selling Messi.

Barca will definitely suffer a significant hit without Messi and no player close to that level of marketing. But I suppose with his huge wages taken off the budget it'll not make a difference in the end.

This. The problem is that we have been defending with 8 players since Lucho left. And you can't put so much pressure on 8 players, especially if they are towards the end of the career.

Its not even just the lack of defensive work, it's the lack.of pace. Suarez can barely run anymore and we have a steady stream of really slow midfielders. At least Neymar was quick. Messi has the stamina of a retired player as well.

The modern game is about pace as well as energy and hard work. Pep's midfield might have been an exception but he had Alves and Messi was lightning quick as was Pedro.

Besides the global brand, appeal and allure of Messi's name to the masses, many elite players around the globe have rejected other clubs for Messi's name.

No doubt Messi's name will continue to sell merchandise for years to come, but will Messi at 33 and beyond continue to cause elite player to reject other clubs for Barca?

Maybe so if the pundits keep drumming the narrative that the repeated UCL failures is on the pet, the coaches and the bad transfers or all of the above except Messi.

After Messi, Barca will likely Not have another huge name to attract players around the globe for years.

with Messi, Barca will have to find a way to carry 1 and hopefully only 1 passenger on defense and win the UCL at the same time.

There's no point to wait until 2021. If he wants to leave, he should leave right now.

Next season in Barca will more or less be a failure. The squad has countless issues that can't be solved in a single transfer period, especially considering our poor finances.

Even if a new board comes in, it will take years to properly rebuild.

Best case scenario for the next 2-3 years is to compete for La Liga(because AM is shit and Real are mediocre, but still better than us).

So,he can either commit to stay another 2-3 years and hopefully win 1 or 2 La Ligas, while avoiding the yearly European humiliation. Which obviously require a new board, a new high profile coach and many squad changes.

Or he can go to Inter/City/PSG right NOW where he can hopefully compete for the domestic league title and of course the CL.

Staying in Barcelona for one year, just to leave in 2021,is just dumb. He'll have to endure another year of misery and he'll be 34 in 2021. Seriously, I can only see Inter trying to get him at 34. Not that 33 is much younger, but you get the point.

No, it would be more.

No it wouldnt.

Ronaldo as marketable if not more so and Real have not lost hundreds of millions and Juventus are struggling with his wages.

Majority of the brand Messi built for Barca remains and TV contracts sponsorships will not fall by anything close to 100m a season.

He should go to Inter this summer if there is anything to it.

Barcelona can no longer afford to have a team built around him. Those days are over dawg.

Inter ? What should he do there ? Even with Messi they wont win Serie A, let alone CL. He would wasting his career there so I think he would choose City with Pep. But as someone already said if he wants to leave he should do it NOW.

Dont think he will have any choice of choosing City and Pep.

They wont be in for him most likely.

I think the loss was closer game than 8-2 indicated. The 5-2 goal was the back breaker and Barca seem to have given up from there.

In the beginning when the game was close and Bayern was full court pressing, Bayern was themselves vulnerable and at a breaking point in the back.

33 old Messi and his heavy weight pet almost made Bayern pay by walking around, younger and faster forwards might have turned the game up side down.

I wonder how effective Bayern's full court press had been if the pet and Busquet had quarantined for life at home and Fati and Dembele (with a complete set of hamstrings)
were on the wings of 33 year old walking Messi with Puig's support.

Bayern scored 8 and missed more chances to add to that than Barca had to add to their 2.

Bayern tailored their game to press high against this old Barca and made it all too easy for them.

Contracts will probably not be changed, but future tv-money, sponsorshipdeals, matchday revenue will be hugely impacted.

the game was alot closer in the beginning and Barca had quite a few chances to go up 2-1 or even 3-1.

Their high press only worked because the back had NO outlets for Messi's walking his pet.

Bayern's high press would not worked with Fati, a healthy Dembele, Gnarby, Davies, etc.
