Modern football, your forwards need to be able to press the back end of the opposing midfield and the CBs. Those draw mistake or slightly rushed passes and that is often key to counters/potential goals.

The problem started that some of the players who played in Pep's exhausting/draining system are still mainstays in 2020. Their legs have been going since 2013 and it was only masked in 2015 by ultra hard work by Rakitic, prime Ney, prime Suarez, and Messi with a point to prove post WC. Also, looking at this game. Bayern were a sliver lucky to win. Dortmund matched them in everything really. Jurgen really is a beast.

Zidane's Madrid is more italian in style. Reminds me of early early to mid 00's Milan. They did not press a lot, but in turn had defenders who could absorb pressure well and didn't panic when pressed, like Varane, Pepe, Carvajal, Ramos.
