Lionel Messi - v7

Messi is part of the problem for that though. We can't have both Messi and Suarez not defend.

Actually, we can't have anyone in the team not defend in 2021.

RM got lucky they had superstar talent all over the field in their CL heyday that they could cover for CR7's lack of defensive effort. Similar to us during 08-15. Now that Juve has other old players aside him, he's getting bounced by Ajax and Lyon.

Modern football, your forwards need to be able to press the back end of the opposing midfield and the CBs. Those draw mistake or slightly rushed passes and that is often key to counters/potential goals.

^ Us during Pep were more like current Bayern in the press. We pressed like animals. Messi pressed the least comparing with Villa, and especially Pedro, but he did some too no doubt.

Madrid are more similar to MSN Barca, they have few in common with 2009-12 Barca.

The problem started that some of the players who played in Pep's exhausting/draining system are still mainstays in 2020. Their legs have been going since 2013 and it was only masked in 2015 by ultra hard work by Rakitic, prime Ney, prime Suarez, and Messi with a point to prove post WC. After that, another free fall.

all of this while being our main striker and playmaker.

b-b-but he doesn't run as much as muller. b-b-but he should fuck off with no money and give us antonella for a ride.

Grow the fuck up and have some respect. Now seems like a natural parting of ways. We've reached an age of football where athleticism is king. Unfortunately Leo is never going to have the ability to press from the front again and nobody can carry passengers. It looks like we might be set for a couple of years transition bringing in the likes of Fati, Puig, Trincao and will have to give them time to settle in and find their way.

RM and MSN Barca's pressing wasn't as disciplined but they both pressed like hell too. We covered more distance than a pep Bayern in 2015 Camp Nou. Or it was just about even at 115 km.

Our team barely breaks 102 km these days.

By the way, I stand corrected @ serghei. RM have been one of the laziest teams to win the CL. I guess Ramos and Casemiro and Modric's hustle fooled me. They average 100-110 KM in CL finals in regulation

ZZ and CR7 are shamans.

Zidane's Madrid is more italian in style. Reminds me of early early to mid 00's Milan. They did not press a lot, but in turn had defenders who could absorb pressure well and didn't panic when pressed, like Varane, Pepe, Carvajal, Ramos.

Remember that in 2016 they Atletico-ed Atletico in the final.

Holy shit, that's 16km more than current Barca. Nearly worth 2 more players.

I wasn't kidding when I said if we fielded 11 runners and put in 115-120 KM, the scoreline would have been 5-1 at worst. Like when big boys play mid table teams who run lungs out.

The blatant lack of effort is why I've gone full steam in favoring of ridding ALL the amigos.

5-1? More like 3-1 at most.

Curious to see Bayern vs Lyon.
