Lionel Messi - v7

One thing that would bother me if he'd leave is that next season will most likely still in majority be played in empty stadiums so he wouldn't get a send-off he deserves from the fans at Camp Nou and I'm sure most other teams fans also respect what he's done for the football and he would get applause at stadiums like San Mames, Pizjuan, Mestalla, Wanda and who knows, maybe even Bernabeu.

Messi is too low key to announce a renewal like Griesmann and CR7.

also too early in the rebuild for Messi to decide to renew.

any announcement now more likely to be leaving.

If leaving, then it is astounding that Messi still has not realized that he and the team can not have the pet and UCL success at the same time.

That would be shame. He deserves proper send off like Iniesta had.

He's probably saying this next year will be his last and he won't renew.

Smart move is on waiting till next year. What candidate is going to win elections if they lose Messi?

Best opportunity to get one final big contract- from us or abroad.

Just has to hope he doesn't get a freak long term injury like Villa, Etoo to detail it.

Messi is in a tough spot here. It's probably late in his career to move to another country. But then again, if he wants to compete at the top and end his career on a high.... Barcelona isn't the answer. He knows we're not going to win another Champions League in the next 3 or 4 years. He definitely knows we're basically stuck with the same squad next season, so does he really want to have another frustrating season of basically winning nothing? I also doubt we'll win the league next season.

I think the only team who can realistically get Messi is Man City. They have the money to afford the fee and his salary. And I doubt Messi would demand anywhere close to the salary he's on now. Probably cost around 120m euros to get him due to him being 33 and him only having one year left on his contract. Man City can easily compete for the Champs League and the Premier League next year. He'll be playing under Pep. He'll have Otamendi and Aguero there. He'll also have a board willing to match his ambitions.

I don't see the point of him staying another year. Does he really want to have another frustrating year of playing shit football and winning basically nothing? Not to mention, does he really want to play under Bartomeu another year?

We're not going to get a huge rebuild, so we're basically going to be stuck with the same squad as we had last year.

I would like to see Messi in City. But it would made so much trouble for Barcelona in terms of reputation and rest. Who would pay to see this squad without any proper dribbler or player that make some good moves?

I think the marketing opportunity would make most of Europe's top clubs want Messi.

Ronaldo made 60m usd in shirtsales at Juve within 24 hours. That's a split of 10-15% to the club and the rest to Adidas.

Huge win for both Juve and Adidas. Of course Madrid and Juve are both Adidas so win-win for the apparel brand there.

Imagine if City got Messi on their brand. Puma would be laughing, while Nike will fight tooth and nail to keep him at a Nike sponsored team- like Inter.

Ronaldo did not make Juventus 60m in shirt sales and they are struggling to justify his wages even if most marketable player out there.

https://www.businessinsider.com/juventus-sold-60-million-in-cristiano-ronaldo-jerseys-in-24-hours-2018-7?IR=T

That article claims they sold 60m worth of jerseys not that they made 60m.

Clubs make deals with suppliers to get the vast majority of profit from any shirt sale.

Juve would have made nowhere near 60m and may made next to nothing as Nike pays them and takes profit on shirts unless their is commission involved which is most likely minimal.
